Graduate Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – Pre-Construction

Location: Tower Bridge, London

We’re not looking for a graduate to sit behind a spreadsheet. GKR Scaffolding is looking for an ambitious Graduate Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our Commercial and Pre-Construction/Bid Team.

You will learn directly from professionals with extensive experience in the scaffolding and construction industry, gaining exposure to the complete commercial process – from the first tender enquiry through delivery on site to final account.

This is not a desk-only commercial role. We want you to understand what we build, how we build it and how decisions made in design and on site affect the commercial success of a project.

What You Will Do:

  • Work alongside our Pre-Construction, Commercial, Design and Operations teams to:
    • Help develop and submit tenders alongside experienced estimators.
    • Learn to understand scope requirements and develop workable scaffold solutions to suit project needs.
    • Learn to read and understand contracts and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
    • Assist with budgets, valuations, variations and monitoring project performance.
    • Help develop commercial systems and reporting across the business.
    • Use drawings, 3D models, quantities, and material schedules to support estimates and tenders.
    • Spend time on site understanding how scaffolding is erected, adapted and dismantled, and understand how buildability, programme and site decisions affect cost.
    • Shadow site management and Black Hats to understand how projects actually operate.
    • Attend meetings, engage with clients and develop the confidence to communicate, advise and make decisions.
    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and project teams.
    • Take increasing ownership of tenders and commercial responsibilities as you develop.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

GKR is a family-oriented business that believes in investing in its people. We value people who demonstrate ability, commitment and loyalty, and wherever possible we look internally first when creating the next generation of managers and leaders.

If you demonstrate that you are capable and ready for more responsibility, we want to create opportunities for you rather than make you wait for them.

Who We Are Looking For

You may have a degree in Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline. Previous scaffolding experience is not required.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is curious, commercially minded, and willing to think for themselves.

You should be interested in numbers and contracts, but equally willing to put your boots on, visit a site, speak with the people doing the work and understand the practical reality behind the figures.

We will invest in teaching you the industry. In return, we expect you to learn, challenge yourself, take responsibility and grow with us.

Visa sponsorship may be offered following successful completion of the six-month probation period, subject to eligibility and UK immigration requirements.
