I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Proactively contacting potential customers
- Following up inbound and marketing-generated opportunities
- Speaking with technical and commercial stakeholders
- Re-engaging dormant and previous customers

What does a Graduate Sales Executive look like?
You will have a qualification in:
- Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or another relevant scientific, engineering, or technical discipline.
We are looking for someone who combines technical credibility with a strong commercial personality. You are likely to be someone who:
- Has genuine drive and determination
- Is naturally outgoing and enjoys speaking with new people
- Is ambitious and motivated by targets and achievement
- Is confident starting conversations
- Has strong commercial instincts
- Builds rapport quickly
- Is resilient when faced with rejection or setbacks
- Takes ownership of results
- Is coachable and wants to develop quickly
This role will not suit someone looking to remain primarily behind the scenes in a technical capacity. Attitude, personality, commercial potential, and willingness to learn matter the most.
The role is predominantly home-based, although occasional UK travel to offices, customers, and team meetings will be required.
Interested?
If you have the technical background but also know you are driven, confident, commercially curious, and good with people, this could be a strong opportunity to build a long-term, rewarding career in B2B sales.
