Typical Activities
Working as part of our Early Careers team within Products & Engineering, the Graduate Software Engineer will join our 12-month Graduate Scheme starting in September 2027 gaining experience across a range of projects while developing their technical, professional and collaborative skills.
You Will
- Design, develop and implement software using languages and technologies such as C/C++, Rust, Go, Python and web frameworks.
- Develop software across a range of applications, including mobile apps, secure communications and embedded systems.
- Integrate software with other system components, including FPGA/PLD devices and hardware.
- Contribute to the development of cloud-based platforms and services, including microservices and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Gain experience across the full product development lifecycle, from requirements through to testing.
- Document software designs, implementation decisions and development activities in line with best practices.
- Investigate and evaluate emerging frameworks, libraries, build tools and technologies.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to develop technical solutions using Agile methodologies.
- Contribute to technical solutions through effective troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving.
- Get involved in STEM outreach activities, helping to create new initiatives and represent PentenAmio at events.

What we're looking for
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related subject.
- Awareness of software development principles and experience coding in at least one programming or scripting language.
- Good understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- An understanding of the basic stages of the product development lifecycle.
- Enthusiasm for technology and a genuine desire to learn and develop new technical skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and techniques.
- A systematic and methodical approach to debugging and resolving technical issues.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good time management, self-motivation and ownership of your deliverables.

Desirable
- Experience with embedded programming or operating systems, such as Linux on Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
- Experience with Apple or Android application development.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
- Experience with real-time embedded microkernels or hypervisors.

Qualifications & Eligibility
To Be Eligible For This Position You Must
- Hold or expect to achieve a minimum 2:1 degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related subject; and
- Be a British citizen; and
- Hold or be eligible for UK National Security Vetting (NSV) - SC level clearance.
