Graduate O&M Engineer – Solar
About the Role
A growing renewable energy organisation is seeking four Graduate O&M Engineers to join its solar operations and maintenance team in Reading.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering graduate to start a career within the renewable energy sector. No previous work experience is required, with full training and development provided from day one. Initially, you will be predominantly office-based, working alongside experienced O&M Engineers before progressively moving into the field. You will work on commercial solar farms across the South of England, developing the technical skills and practical experience required to progress into an O&M Engineer position.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the operation and maintenance of commercial solar PV installations.
- Work alongside experienced O&M Engineers as part of a structured development programme.
- Develop practical knowledge of solar PV systems and associated electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Assist with identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues across solar sites.
- Progress from an office-based training environment into field-based engineering work.
- Develop the skills and experience required to take responsibility for O&M activities.
- Work collaboratively with engineers and wider operational teams.
- Follow appropriate health, safety, quality, and operational procedures.
- Build knowledge of commercial-scale renewable energy projects.
- Develop your technical understanding through hands-on experience and ongoing training.

About You
You are a recent Mechanical or Electrical Engineering graduate looking to build a long-term career within the renewable energy sector. No previous engineering or solar experience is required, and candidates from a wide range of backgrounds will be considered.
You will be motivated to learn, develop your technical skills, and gain practical engineering experience. You will have a genuine interest in renewable energy and be comfortable progressing from an office-based training environment into a field-based engineering role.
Experience or academic exposure to solar PV or renewable energy would be beneficial but is not essential.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Genuine interest in renewable energy and engineering.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively alongside experienced engineers.
- Organised approach with a willingness to take responsibility as your experience develops.
- Comfortable working initially from an office environment before progressing into field-based work.
- Full UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one.
- No previous professional engineering or solar experience required.
- Available to work from the Reading office 4–5 days per week initially.

Desirable:
- Academic experience or modules relating to solar PV or renewable energy.
- Previous exposure to electrical or mechanical engineering environments.
- Any practical technical experience, although this is not essential.
- Interest in developing a career in solar O&M and renewable energy.
