Department: Sustainable Finance
Location: London
Description
AFME engages with policymakers and regulators throughout Europe on all key aspects of sustainable finance regulation. Sustainable finance regulation is regulation which seeks to mobilise finance in support of sustainability goals and integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into business and investment decisions. This is a priority area for our members with numerous legislative, regulatory and other initiatives under way. Examples of current areas of focus include sustainability reporting, ESG bond and equity markets, the development of sustainable finance taxonomies, carbon markets, how banks should assess sustainability risks and how financial markets can support efforts to enhance and preserve biodiversity.
AFME’s members are committed to supporting the transition to a sustainable economy and the development of sustainable finance. AFME seeks to support this goal and engage with public and private sector stakeholders on behalf of its members.
We are seeking a Graduate to support all workstreams supporting the sustainable finance team (a Managing Director and a Manager) in analysing and responding to proposed regulation, developing thought leadership publications, supporting AFME events and advocacy with external stakeholders. The role provides an excellent starting point for a career at the intersection of sustainability policy and the financial sector.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
