Castle Environmental is leading specialist waste treatment, disposal, and recycling services – handling in excess of 200,000 tonnes of waste per year. With more than 40 years’ experience, we provide customers peace of mind through high standards in technical assessment and processing. Right now, we have an opportunity for a Graduate Technical Assessor, based at our Ilkeston facility, to join the team.

What You’ll Do

We’re on the lookout for a driven and detail-oriented Graduate Technical Assessor to join our growing Technical Sales team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a chemistry graduate looking to kick-start their career in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Classification of Waste: Reviewing incoming waste streams and accurately classifying them in line with relevant environmental and legislative guidelines.
  • Customer Support: Providing day-to-day technical advice and support to customers, helping them understand compliance requirements and the best disposal solutions.
  • Internal Collaboration: Working closely with the Customer Services Manager and wider Technical Sales team to ensure the efficient handling of enquiries and waste assessments.
  • Problem Solving: Investigating and resolving technical or commercial non-conformances, acting as a key liaison between customers and internal teams to find practical solutions.
  • Knowledge Building: Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of third-party treatment, recycling, and disposal sites to provide accurate routing and pricing information.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Accurately completing waste assessment reports, maintaining up-to-date records, and supporting the preparation of regulatory documentation.
  • Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve assessment workflows and enhance customer experience.

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of an HNC in Chemistry
  • Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Confident working both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • A friendly and professional telephone manner

This role will require communication with other sites, colleagues, and clients, and it is therefore important that the person has a friendly and pleasant manner.
