Technical Estimator
Willis Aviation Services Limited (WASL) is looking for a Technical Estimator to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start or develop their career within the aviation industry, combining technical knowledge, commercial awareness and analytical skills within a busy aircraft maintenance environment.
The Technical Estimator will support the preparation of accurate, commercially viable and technically robust quotations for aircraft maintenance, modification and rectification work undertaken within our UK CAA Part-145 MRO environment.
Working closely with our customers, Planning, Production, Stores and Procurement teams, you will review work packages, maintenance requirements and inspection findings to help develop detailed quotations covering labour, materials, parts, specialist services, tooling, facilities and other associated costs.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your understanding of aircraft maintenance, estimating and commercial processes, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our estimating capability through the use of historical cost and performance data.
Full training and support will be provided, making this role suitable for a graduate or someone at an early stage of their aviation career who has a strong interest in aircraft maintenance, engineering, planning or commercial operations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting the review of customer work packages, maintenance inputs, inspection findings, engineering instructions and associated technical documentation.
- Assisting with the preparation of detailed quotations for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, rectification, modification and component-related activities where applicable.
- Developing an understanding of how labour hours are estimated based on task complexity, aircraft configuration, access requirements, maintenance procedures and previous experience.
- Identifying the required manpower disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/avionics, structures and other specialist skills.
- Supporting the identification of external specialist services, subcontractors, NDT, machining, specialist repairs and other third-party requirements.
- Liaising with Production, Planning, Stores and Procurement to validate estimates and ensure quotations are accurate and achievable.
- Supporting the creation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the company's quotation and estimating model.
- Maintaining accurate records of historical quotations, actual labour performance, material costs and completed work.
- Supporting the development of standard estimating rates, labour standards and task-duration assumptions for recurring maintenance activities.
- Comparing quoted hours and costs against actual maintenance performance and helping to identify estimating variances.
- Using data and operational experience to support improvements in the accuracy and commercial effectiveness of future quotations.
- Developing an understanding of aircraft maintenance processes, commercial considerations and customer requirements.
- Supporting the wider business with technical and commercial input where required.
- Working collaboratively with experienced aviation professionals and learning from colleagues across the Technical, Planning, Production and Commercial functions.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about aviation, analytical and keen to develop a career within aircraft maintenance and commercial operations.
You may be a recent graduate, have a relevant technical qualification, or have some experience within an aviation, engineering, planning or commercial environment. You don't need to have previous experience as a Technical Estimator. We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, understand technical information and apply a methodical and analytical approach to their work.
You'll ideally have:
- A degree, HNC/HND or other relevant qualification in Aviation, Aircraft Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering, Business, Finance or a related subject.
- An interest in aircraft maintenance and the aviation industry.
- Some experience of working with technical information, data or documentation.
- The ability to understand and interpret information accurately.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, customers and external stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and other data-based systems.
The following would be desirable but are not essential, and training can be provided:
- Previous experience within an aviation, aircraft maintenance, engineering, planning or commercial environment.
- Experience within a Part-145 and/or Part-M/CAMO environment.
- Knowledge of continuing airworthiness and maintenance records systems such as AMOS, OASES or Tracking Plus.
- Technical records experience.
- Knowledge of B737 and/or A320 family aircraft.
- Knowledge of HF, EWIS and FTS.
- Previous experience of estimating, planning or analysing maintenance activities.
