Graduate Planner / Planner
Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire
£25,000–£35,000 depending on qualifications and experience
Full-time | Hybrid working available | RTPI Chartership support
We are an established and busy Town Planning consultancy based in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, and are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Planner or Planner to join our team.
You don't necessarily need a Town Planning degree to apply. We would also be very interested in hearing from graduates with qualifications in Geography, Environmental Planning or another related discipline who are interested in developing a career in town planning.
Our work takes us across the whole of Wales and into parts of England, working with both private and public sector clients across a genuinely varied range of projects, including residential, agricultural, commercial and tourism development, planning appeals and enforcement matters.
We can offer something a little different from a larger consultancy. You won't be limited to one type of project or spend your first year working on a narrow part of the planning process. You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of planning work, work directly with experienced planners and clients, attend site visits and gradually take responsibility for your own projects.
You'll also gain experience of the wider development process, working alongside a range of other professionals including Architects, Civil Engineers, Ecologists and other specialist consultants. This provides an excellent opportunity to understand how different disciplines work together to take a project from its early stages through the planning process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
For a graduate joining the practice, we don't expect you to arrive knowing how to do everything. You will receive practical support and mentoring, including support towards RTPI Chartered Membership, while gradually taking on greater responsibility as your experience and confidence develop.
We would equally welcome applications from existing Assistant Planners or Planners looking for a varied role within a small independent consultancy.
The Role
Depending on your level of experience, your work will include:
- Preparing and submitting planning applications
- Undertaking planning research, site appraisals and development assessments
- Preparing Planning Statements and other supporting documents

- Working collaboratively with architects, civil engineers, ecologists and other professional consultants

- Working across residential, agricultural, commercial and tourism projects
- Contributing to multidisciplinary project teams
- Managing your own caseload as your knowledge and experience develop
About You
We would like to hear from candidates at either Graduate Planner or Planner level. You may have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning or another related discipline. We are more interested in finding someone with the right aptitude, enthusiasm and interest in planning than restricting the position to one particular degree.
