Edinburgh | Building Surveying Consultancy | Full-time

We are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate / Assistant Building Surveyor to join a growing building surveying consultancy in Edinburgh.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career surveyor looking to develop their experience within an established and supportive consultancy environment. You will work alongside experienced building surveyors on a varied portfolio of commercial and residential projects, gaining hands-on experience across the full range of building surveying services.

Our client is committed to developing people and will provide the training, mentoring and practical experience needed to progress your career and work towards RICS qualification, where applicable.

Working as part of the Edinburgh team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with building surveys, condition surveys and defect investigations
  • Supporting the preparation of Schedules of Condition, Schedules of Dilapidations and other technical reports
  • Assisting with planned and reactive maintenance advice
  • Supporting contract administration and project monitoring on refurbishment and repair projects
  • Carrying out site inspections and recording building defects and condition
  • Assisting with the preparation of specifications, schedules and tender documentation
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders
  • Undertaking research and providing technical input into reports and recommendations
  • Supporting senior surveyors with a variety of professional instructions
  • Developing your knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and best practice

We are looking for someone who is keen to build a long-term career in building surveying and has a genuine interest in the built environment.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Building Surveying, Building/Construction, Property or a related subject
  • Or be working towards / have recently completed an appropriate degree
  • An interest in working towards RICS chartership
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • A willingness to learn and take responsibility
  • Confidence in dealing with clients and colleagues
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • A full UK driving licence would be advantageous

Previous surveying experience is beneficial but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and a willingness to develop.
