Job Title: Grant Manager

We’re looking for a Grant Manager to support us to establish and run our grant management function, covering the full life cycle of incoming and outgoing grants including due diligence, grant application workflows, internal controls, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL). This is a hands-on, varied role where you’ll help put the required policies, processes, and systems in place, and play a key part in shaping how we work as an organisation with funders and hosted projects.
About the role
The postholder will play a key role in establishing and embedding robust grant management systems, processes, and tools, to support the effective management of the organisation’s incoming and outgoing grant portfolio. The role ensures that income grant funding is managed, monitored, and reported on effectively, while also overseeing the administration and management of grants made by hosted projects. The post holder will provide capacity-building for hosted project staff to manage grant-making in line with Enselia policies and processes, and funder and regulatory compliance requirements. They will act as a thought partner in the continual development of Enselia’s grant management approach, and a key player in the oversight of our grant portfolio. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of both restricted and unrestricted funding, funder compliance requirements, and best practice grant-making principles and approaches.

What you’ll be doing
Grant Management System (GMS), policies, and processes
- Working closely with the Operations Director:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of robust and scalable grant management policies and processes.
- Establish a Single-Source of Truth (SSoT) approach to funder, grantee, and grant record management.
- Lead the implementation, ongoing development, and management of the organisation's Grant Management System (GMS).
- Embed approaches and tools to ensure high data accuracy and integrity and develop dashboards and reporting tools to support grant portfolio oversight and decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement of the grant management system, policies, and processes.
Due diligence and risk management
- Support development of due diligence frameworks, processes, and documentation.
- Conduct due diligence assessments on prospective and existing grantees, delivery partners, and funders.
- Monitor and track grant-related compliance, financial, operational, performance, or reputational risks, and support development of appropriate mitigation measures, ensuring significant risks are escalated.
- Ensure learning from due diligence and risk management feeds into the ongoing development of Enselia’s grant management approach.
Income grant management
- Monitor a portfolio of restricted and unrestricted income-grants, ensuring all funding is administered in accordance with organisational policies, funder requirements, UK Charity Commission regulation and best practice, and organisational priorities.
- Monitor grant performance against objectives and liaise with finance colleagues to ensure accurate budget management and reporting.
- Coordinate and produce high-quality narrative reports and work closely with finance colleagues to ensure high-quality finance reports.
Outgoing grant-making
- Develop and manage templates for grant application, award, amendment, and reporting.
- Oversee grant application, assessment, award, MEL, and closure processes.
- Coordinate grant review processes and approval processes, in line with delegated authorities and organisational risk appetite.
- Support hosted projects to monitor grantee performance and compliance against funding agreements, agreed deliverables, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks, and reporting requirements.
- Manage grant amendments, variations, and No-Cost Extension (NCE) processes, ensuring appropriate approvals and documentation are maintained.

Capacity building and training
- Develop training materials, guidance documents, toolkits, and resources for internal and hosted project stakeholders and grantees.
- Deliver training sessions, workshops, and briefings on grant management, compliance requirements, reporting expectations, and MEL.
- Provide ongoing support and advice to hosted projects and grantees to strengthen their grant management and reporting capabilities.
- Promote best practices in grant management, evaluation, and compliance.
About you
You’ll bring to this role:
- Significant experience in grant management roles in the non-profit sector.
- Significant experience managing both restricted and unrestricted grant funding.
- Experience managing the full grant lifecycle, including application development, award management, monitoring, reporting, and close-out.
- Demonstrable experience of funder compliance and risk management.
- Experience conducting due diligence assessments.
- Experience establishing or managing Grant Management Systems (GMS) and related policies and processes.
- Experience developing grant management tools, templates, frameworks, and reporting mechanisms.
- Experience developing and delivering training, guidance, and capacity-building support.
- Experience managing no-cost extension (NCE) processes and grant amendments.
- Experience producing high-quality narrative and financial reports for funders and senior stakeholders.
- Experience designing or improving interim systems, workflows, or procedures in a growing organisation.
- Experience working with ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving structures.
- Fluency in English.
Additional desirable knowledge and skills
- Experience working with philanthropic funders.
- Experience in a global/international organisation.
- Finance and/or data science experience.
- Experience establishing new grant management systems from the ground-up.
- Experience in a fiscal sponsor/hosting organisation or in a start-up environment.
- Second language proficiency.
