About the Role
Croydon Staying Put is an agency within Croydon Council which assists older and disabled people who require assistance with repairs, improvements or adaptations to their homes to remain living independently.
The Staying Put Team is committed to improving housing standards across the private sector through the delivery of grants and loans for repairs, improvements and adaptations. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Grants and Loans Surveyor to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a building professional with experience in domestic property refurbishment, surveying and contract management to make a meaningful difference to vulnerable residents, including older people and people with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Grants and Loans Surveyor, you will:
- Manage and administer grant and loan applications from initial enquiry through to completion.
- Undertake detailed property inspections and surveys to assess defects, repair requirements and adaptation needs.
- Prepare specifications, schedules of work, drawings and cost estimates for a range of residential projects.
- Provide building surveying advice and support across all areas of the Staying Put service.
- Oversee procurement and tendering processes in accordance with contractual and council procedures.
- Monitor project expenditure and maintain effective financial control across individual grant and loan cases.
- Inspect works in progress and upon completion, ensuring quality, compliance and value for money.
- Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible working practices with contractors and partners.
- Build positive relationships with homeowners, contractors, occupational therapists and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

About You
We are looking for an individual who combines strong technical expertise with excellent customer service and communication skills.
Essential Knowledge
- Relevant qualification, such as a BTEC in Building Studies, HNC/HND in Construction, Building Surveying, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Local Authority Housing Renewal Policies and private sector grants and loans systems.
- Sound understanding of financial systems, procedures and budget management.
- Working knowledge of the Party Wall Act.
- Understanding of the housing and adaptation needs of older people, disabled people and other vulnerable residents.
Essential Experience
- Experience of housing renewal, building surveying or property maintenance work.
- Ability to identify building defects and specify appropriate remedial works.
- Experience of preparing drawings, schedules of work and specifications for residential properties, including drainage systems.
- Experience of managing building contracts involving maintenance, repairs, improvements and adaptations.
- Experience of undertaking tendering procedures and contract administration.
