Grants Writer – Development Projects
Shanta Sharma Development is seeking a talented, research-oriented, and motivated Grant Writer to join our team on a fully remote, paid basis. The Grant Writer will support the development of evidence-based, practical, SDG-aligned, and fundable development projects in Nepal and abroad.
This is more than a traditional grant-writing position. The role involves understanding development challenges, conducting research, developing project concepts, identifying suitable donors and funding opportunities, and preparing strong and competitive grant proposals.
The successful candidate will work with NGOs, non-profit organizations, schools, community organizations, and other development institutions to transform development needs and ideas into well-designed projects and potential funding opportunities.
What You Will Do

Identify & Research Development Needs
- Research development challenges, needs, and opportunities in Nepal and international contexts.
- Review relevant research, reports, statistics, policies, and sector information.
- Conduct desk research to establish evidence for proposed projects.
- Identify gaps, priorities, and opportunities that can be addressed through development projects.

Develop Project Concepts
- Transform development needs and ideas into practical project concepts.
- Develop problem statements, needs assessments, project rationales, and theories of change.
- Develop project goals, objectives, outputs, outcomes, activities, and indicators.
- Develop logical frameworks and results frameworks.
- Ensure projects are feasible, measurable, sustainable, and aligned with relevant SDGs.

Research Donors & Funding Opportunities
- Identify relevant donors, foundations, development agencies, CSR programs, and other funding sources.
- Research donor priorities, eligibility criteria, geographic focus, thematic interests, funding levels, and application procedures.
- Identify funding opportunities in Nepal and abroad.
- Match development projects with appropriate donors and funding opportunities.
- Maintain an organized donor and funding-opportunity database.

Write Grant Proposals
- Develop concept notes, expressions of interest, letters of inquiry, and full grant proposals.
- Write clear, persuasive, evidence-based project narratives.
- Develop project objectives, activities, outcomes, indicators, timelines, and implementation approaches.
- Support project budget development and budget narratives.
- Ensure proposals clearly communicate the problem, proposed solution, expected results, impact, sustainability, and feasibility.
- Tailor proposals to specific donor requirements.

Strengthen Project Quality
- Review project concepts and proposals for clarity, logic, evidence, consistency, and donor alignment.
- Identify weaknesses and recommend improvements.
- Ensure proposals respond fully to donor questions and requirements.
- Strengthen the overall competitiveness of project proposals.

Work with Development Institutions
- Communicate with NGOs, non-profit organizations, schools, community organizations, and other institutions to understand their development needs and project ideas.
- Gather information required for project and proposal development.
- Collaborate with technical experts, researchers, and project specialists when necessary.
- Participate in virtual project-development and proposal-review meetings.

Support the Grant Cycle
- Track donor opportunities, deadlines, and application requirements.
- Support proposal revisions and resubmissions.
- Maintain organized records of proposals and funding opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project-development and grant-writing processes.

Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can think beyond writing and understand how a development project is identified, researched, designed, positioned, and funded.
Required Skills & Attributes
- Excellent English writing and editing skills.
- Strong research and analytical abilities.
- Understanding of development issues and development-sector terminology.
- Ability to understand donor guidelines and funding priorities.
- Ability to transform development challenges and ideas into structured project concepts.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to work across different development sectors and geographic contexts.
