Graphic Design & Creative Experience Intern

About JSE Digital

JSE Digital is a UK-registered digital startup providing creative, digital and technology services to businesses. As a growing company, we value the exchange of ideas, creativity and professional perspectives. This internship has been created as a mutual professional-development opportunity, allowing the participant to gain practical exposure to graphic design, branding and creative development while giving JSE Digital the opportunity to learn from the participant's creativity, ideas and design perspective.

Purpose of the Programme

The Graphic Design & Creative Experience Internship is designed primarily as a professional experience and development programme rather than an employed job position. The programme is intended to provide practical exposure to areas including:

  • Graphic design
  • Brand identity and visual communication
  • Creative concept development
  • Social media graphics
  • Marketing and promotional design
  • Merchandise design
  • Sticker design
  • Typography and layout
  • Design research and inspiration
  • Brand consistency
  • Presentation and mock-up design
  • Working creatively within existing brand guidelines

The participant will be encouraged to bring their own creative style, ideas and perspective, experiment with concepts and challenge existing approaches where appropriate. The experience is intended to be mutually beneficial: the participant can develop demonstrable professional experience and portfolio work while JSE Digital benefits from fresh creative thinking and design perspectives.

Nature of the Internship

This programme is offered as an unpaid professional experience opportunity. It is not intended to operate as a contracted employee or worker position. The programme is designed without:

  • Fixed daily or weekly working hours
  • Set shifts
  • Required attendance at specific working times
  • A minimum number of hours that must be completed each week
  • Regular employee duties
  • A fixed workload
  • Business-critical responsibilities
  • A required number of designs to be produced
  • Individual commercial or sales targets
  • Exclusivity
  • A promise or guarantee of employment following completion

Participation is intended to remain flexible and can be arranged around the participant's existing professional and personal commitments. Suggested activities are provided to create practical learning and professional-development opportunities and are not intended to operate as mandatory employee duties. The participant and JSE Digital may mutually adjust the areas explored during the programme depending on interests, development goals and availability.

Programme Structure

The internship will run for approximately 3 months from the mutually agreed start date and will focus on practical creative experience, professional development and portfolio-building opportunities.

Month 1 โ€“ Brand Familiarisation & Creative Exploration

The first stage will focus on understanding JSE Digital's existing visual identity and exploring potential creative directions. The participant will be provided with relevant company brand guidelines, existing designs and brand materials. Areas explored may include:

  • Reviewing JSE Digital's existing branding
  • Understanding brand colours, typography and visual style
  • Reviewing existing social media and marketing graphics
  • Exploring creative inspiration and relevant design trends
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen the company's visual identity
  • Developing original visual concepts
  • Exploring how JSE Digital's branding could be expanded across digital and physical materials

Iโ€™m in my final year doing Economics and I donโ€™t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer โ€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโ€™t need a masters. Letโ€™s look at the ones youโ€™d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

One of the key creative areas we would like to explore is original JSE Digital sticker design. The participant will have the opportunity to experiment with concepts such as:

  • Company logo stickers
  • Typography-based stickers
  • Creative illustrations
  • Digital and technology-inspired concepts
  • Startup and business-related concepts
  • Fun and personality-driven brand designs
  • Different shapes, layouts and visual styles

Creativity will be strongly encouraged. The aim is not simply to place the JSE Digital logo onto different items, but to explore designs that people would genuinely want to use, wear or display.

Month 2 โ€“ Merchandise & Design Development

During the second month, the participant will have the opportunity to develop and expand selected creative concepts. A key area of exploration will be JSE Digital merchandise and branded products. Potential concepts may include:

  • T-shirts and clothing graphics
  • Company stickers
  • Tote bags
  • Notebooks
  • Bottle designs
  • Pens and stationery

The participant will be encouraged to think creatively about how JSE Digital's identity, personality and digital background could be translated into interesting merchandise rather than simply applying the company logo to a product. This stage may include:

  • Developing original merchandise concepts
  • Creating realistic design mock-ups
  • Exploring different visual directions
  • Experimenting with typography and illustration
  • Developing variations of selected concepts
  • Reviewing how designs work across different products
  • Exploring print-ready design considerations
  • Developing social media or promotional graphics where relevant

During the second month, JSE Digital and the participant will also have a development and progress review. This will be a collaborative professional-development discussion rather than an employee performance assessment. The review may cover:

  • Creative areas explored so far
  • Skills the participant feels they are developing
  • Designs and concepts they have particularly enjoyed
  • Feedback on existing concepts
  • Areas they would like to explore further
  • New creative directions or ideas
  • Feedback from the participant to JSE Digital
  • Guidance and feedback from JSE Digital

Optional Client Design Experience Where appropriate, and where the participant is interested and comfortable doing so, they may also have the opportunity to gain exposure to real client design projects. This could include observing, exploring or contributing to areas such as:

  • Client branding
  • Social media graphics
  • Marketing materials
  • Website graphics
  • Visual identity concepts
  • Creative assets
  • Other graphic design requirements depending on the project

Participation in client-related activities will be optional and mutually agreed, depending on the participant's interests, confidence and professional-development goals. This provides an opportunity to experience how creative work develops within a real client environment, including understanding briefs, brand requirements, feedback and revisions. Where client work is involved, appropriate confidentiality, client requirements and brand guidelines will apply.

Month 3 โ€“ Refinement, Portfolio & Future Creative Direction

The final month will focus on refining selected concepts and reflecting on the creative experience gained throughout the programme. This may include:

  • Refining selected sticker concepts
  • Developing selected merchandise concepts further
  • Creating professional mock-ups
  • Reviewing brand consistency
  • Exploring additional creative applications
  • Developing future design recommendations
  • Organising selected work into a small design collection or case study
  • Presenting favourite concepts and explaining the creative thinking behind them
  • Suggesting future creative opportunities for JSE Digital

Employment and Programme Status

This opportunity is offered as an unpaid professional experience programme and is not intended to operate as a paid employment position. The programme is designed around flexible participation, creative exploration, professional development and mutually agreed learning activities. There are no contracted working hours, fixed shifts, mandatory weekly workload or guaranteed future employment. The participant's legal employment status will depend on the actual nature of the arrangement and applicable UK law rather than the title of the internship alone. If the nature of the programme changes in a way that may affect this status, JSE Digital will review the arrangement accordingly.
