The opportunity

We are looking for a graphics engineer to join the Lighting team within Unity Graphics. As a graphics engineer in the Lighting team at Unity, you will maintain existing graphics features in our Scriptable Render Pipeline and participate in building new features too. We specialize in solving graphics challenges while delivering maintainable and extensible features optimized for many platforms.

Our team is passionate about using innovative rendering methodologies to develop robust graphics solutions. Your role will allow you to have a direct impact on how graphics features are taken to the next level at Unity. Our ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of graphics and a passion for developing features that will be accessible by a broad range of users.

This is a permanent position which will provide the opportunity to grow as a key contributor to the graphics features and workflows of the Unity Engine and Editor.

What you’ll be doing

  • The range of technologies you could work with cover artist-facing features for rendering: direct lighting, indirect diffuse and specular lighting, ray tracing, shadow mapping and more as well as evolving and optimizing our rendering architecture
  • Closely collaborate with other developers, technical artists and product designers to extend existing or create new end-to-end graphics workflows that will perform well on high-end platforms as well as on mobile for scalable real-time rendering
  • Investigate and fix bugs
  • Create automated tests for new or existing features
  • Be part of a development team that champion high engineering standards and deliver maintainable code

What we’re looking for

  • Proficiency in GPU programming using HLSL
  • Knowledge of modern GPU architectures
  • Hands on experience with developing rendering techniques
  • Experience delivering on goals in an agile environment
  • Good C# programming skills
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with an interest in innovative rendering technologies

You might also have

  • Hands-on experience working with the Unity engine
  • Practical experience of working in large, sophisticated codebases
  • Previous work in the visual effects and/or games industry
  • Experience with ray tracing and path tracing algorithms.
  • Shipped games on game consoles and/or mobile devices
  • An understanding of modern graphics APIs like DX12, Metal and Vulkan
  • Familiarity of the rendering equation and understanding of the underlying math
  • Experience with cross-platform, multi-threaded, C++ code

Salary range depends on location:

  • Copenhagen, Denmark: 577,300.00 - 721,600.00 DKK annual
  • Brighton, UK: 45,900.00- 57,400.00 GBP annual

This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate’s relevant experience, professional background, and skill set.
