I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your day-to-day will involve writing and maintaining high-quality shaders and graphical features while carefully accounting for mobile hardware constraints such as memory usage, overdraw, and thermal throttling. You will take ownership of profiling and investigating performance bottlenecks across diverse devices, utilising mobile graphics APIs like Vulkan and Metal to resolve visual anomalies. From optimising render pipelines to managing post-processing, culling, LODing, and lightmapping, you will ensure the stability and efficiency of our graphics codebase across a wide spectrum of target hardware.
About you:
As a Graphics Programmer bring professional programming experience in C# or C++, backed by a practical understanding of coding standards, software architecture, and graphics pipelines.
We would love to see experience across some of the following areas:
- Shader Programming: Practical experience with HLSL, GLSL, or CG shader development, ideally utilising Physically Based Rendering (PBR) workflows.
- Render Pipelines: Familiarity with Unity Scriptable Render Pipelines (SRPs), including shader keywords, variants, batching, render passes, and custom renderer features.
- Mobile Profiling & Optimisation: Hands-on experience with on-device mobile graphics profiling, debugging, and performance optimisation across Android or iOS hardware.
- Graphics APIs: A working familiarity with modern mobile graphics APIs such as Vulkan and Metal.
- 3D Math & Asset Optimisation: A solid foundation in 3D math and experience optimising art assets, including post-processing, culling, LOD systems, and lightmaps.
- Collaborative Mindset: An eye for visual detail, effective problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to working alongside technical artists and cross-functional game teams.
