Green Spaces Officer (Playgrounds) – 9 Month Contract
Location: Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey, KT15 2AH
Rate: £18.22 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 9 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern:
- 1 Day Working From Home
- 2 Days Office Based
- 2 Days Field Based
Pay: Bi-Weekly
Summary
Runnymede Borough Council is on the lookout for a dynamic and motivated Green Spaces Officer (Playgrounds) to join our team. This role is crucial in managing, enhancing, and developing the Borough's parks, playgrounds, open spaces, and allotments. The position involves a mix of project management, contractor oversight, stakeholder collaboration, and hands-on site support. The successful candidate will partner with grounds maintenance teams, contractors, volunteers, councillors, community groups, and various departments to ensure our green spaces are well-maintained and improved for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee improvement projects for parks, playgrounds, open spaces, and allotments.
- Ensure timely, budget-conscious, and quality-compliant project delivery.
- Facilitate enhancements that boost the quality and value of the Borough's green spaces.
- Collaborate with the Grounds Maintenance Team to uphold standards and promote best practices.
- Offer technical guidance and operational advice as needed.
- Work in partnership with internal departments, councillors, community groups, contractors, businesses, and external agencies.
- Supervise contractors and volunteers on green space improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to habitat creation, tree planting, conservation activities, and environmental improvement efforts.
- Assist the Green Spaces and Tree Teams with occasional practical site tasks.
- Aid in the development and execution of management plans for parks and greenspaces.
- Monitor projects to ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
- Conduct and evaluate risk assessments and risk-benefit analyses.
- Support the organization and management of community and public events when necessary.

Essential Requirements
- Experience in parks, green spaces, playgrounds, countryside management, landscaping, or environmental services.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations, including risk assessments.
- Proven ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Competence in working with contractors, volunteers, community groups, and colleagues.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
- Experience working independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to work both in an office setting and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Desirable
- Experience in Local Government or Public Sector settings.
- Familiarity with playgrounds, parks, and open space management.
- Experience in supervising contractors or volunteers.
- Qualification in horticulture, countryside management, environmental management, or a related field.
- Experience in supporting community events and environmental projects.
