PRESTWICK GOLF CLUB

GREENKEEPING APPRENTICESHIP

Build your career at the Birthplace of The Open

Following the celebration of our 175th anniversary, Prestwick Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic Greenkeeping Apprentice to join our experienced course team.

Prestwick holds a unique place in golfing history. Founded in 1851 and host venue for the first Open Championship, the Club is proud of its heritage while continuing to look confidently towards the future.

Our approach to course management is progressive and data-driven, using modern technology, performance measurement and sustainable practices to support informed decision-making. At the same time, we remain committed to the authentic “touch and feel” values of traditional links greenkeeping—the experience, judgement and attention to detail required to present a natural, firm and challenging links course.

The apprenticeship

This three-year training programme will combine blended education with SRUC Elmwood, Cupar, with practical, hands-on experience alongside Prestwick’s skilled greenkeeping team.

During the programme, you will work towards an SVQ Level 2 qualification in Sports Turf Management, with the potential to progress further through the Modern Apprenticeship pathway.

You will gain experience across all aspects of links-course management, including:

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
