Job Title: Grid & Power Engineer

Location: (Hybrid) York/Edinburgh or Fully Remote considered
Department: Development – Grid
Reports to: Head of Grid

We’re doing exciting things, with our highly specialist team

At Apatura, we develop projects that power clean energy and a thriving digital world — from battery storage to data centres. It’s complex, high-impact work, delivered by a highly capable team who move quickly and care deeply about doing things well.

We’re driven by bold ideas, a strong sense of purpose and a willingness to challenge how things are usually done. As we grow, we’re looking for a creative Grid & Power Engineer to help shape how Apatura shows up — to investors, communities, policymakers and the wider world.
With a growing pipeline of projects and ambitious plans to expand the business, this role offers the chance to play a key part in supporting Apatura’s next stage of growth.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious electrical or power systems engineer looking to take ownership of complex grid connection challenges and work at the forefront of the UK's renewable energy sector. You'll collaborate with network operators, technical experts, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure our projects are technically robust, commercially viable, and ready for successful delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

As Grid & Power Engineer, you'll act as the primary technical liaison for all grid-related matters across the development lifecycle, including:

  • Leading grid connection strategies across a diverse portfolio of generation and demand projects.
  • Managing relationships with TOs, DNOs, NESO, ICPs, IDNOs, and specialist consultants.
  • Identifying viable grid connection opportunities through technical analysis of network data.
  • Preparing, submitting, and managing connection applications for BESS, PV, and demand sites.
  • Reviewing and assessing connection offers, modification applications, and associated agreements.
  • Producing Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and overseeing power system studies and compliance assessments.
  • Supporting pre-planning electrical design activities, including equipment selection, sizing, and layout development.
  • Advising internal teams on technical matters relating to development, planning, finance, land acquisition, and construction.
  • Driving cost efficiencies and ensuring technical compliance throughout project development.
  • Monitoring industry developments and helping to shape Apatura's grid strategy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
