Grid Connections Manager - Solar PV & BESS
We are working with a rapidly growing renewable energy developer that is expanding its UK portfolio of utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects.
As part of this growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Grid Connections Manager to take ownership of grid strategy and connection activities across a significant pipeline of renewable energy projects.
This is an opportunity to join a business where Grid sits at the heart of project development. You will have genuine ownership of projects, working from early-stage grid feasibility and connection applications through connection agreements, detailed development and ultimately energisation.
As Grid Connections Manager, you will:
- Lead grid connection activities across a portfolio of Solar PV and BESS projects throughout the UK.
- Manage projects through the full grid connection lifecycle, from initial feasibility and applications through to energisation.
- Identify potential connection points, available capacity, network constraints, reinforcement requirements and associated project risks.
- Prepare, submit and manage connection applications with DNOs, NESO and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET).
- Review, negotiate and manage grid connection offers and agreements, including costs, milestones, securities, liabilities and delivery programmes.
- Act as a key point of contact with DNOs, NESO, NGET, ICPs, IDNOs, consultants and other grid stakeholders.
- Manage contestable and non-contestable connection works and coordinate with ICPs, EPC contractors and engineering consultants.
- Support technical development relating to HV/EHV substations, cable routes, protection, metering and connection infrastructure.
- Ensure projects comply with relevant UK requirements including Grid Code, Distribution Code, G99/G100 and applicable ENA standards.
- Work closely with Development, Engineering, Construction, Land, Legal and Commercial teams to ensure grid milestones align with the wider project programme.
- Manage grid connection budgets, connection charges and project expenditure.
- Identify connection risks early and develop mitigation strategies to protect project timelines.
- Monitor developments in the UK grid market, including NESO Connections Reform, Gate 2 and queue management, and assess the impact on the project portfolio.
- Support new project origination by providing early-stage grid assessments and identifying attractive connection opportunities.

We are interested in speaking with Grid professionals who have experience within renewable energy, utilities, network operators, ICPs or power systems engineering.
Ideally, you will have:
- 5+ years' experience within UK grid connections, power systems or electrical infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of the UK electricity transmission and/or distribution network.
- Experience managing grid connections for Solar PV, BESS or other large-scale generation projects.
- Experience dealing directly with DNOs, NESO and/or NGET.
- Knowledge of UK connection applications, offers and connection agreements.
- Understanding of G99, G100, Grid Code and Distribution Code requirements.
- Knowledge of HV and EHV electrical infrastructure, substations and grid connection design.
- Strong commercial awareness around connection costs, securities, programmes and project risk.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- An Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or similar technical background would be advantageous.
