Help Power Ireland's Renewable Future
At SSE Renewables, we're delivering some of the most significant energy infrastructure projects across Ireland and Northern Ireland, helping drive the transition to a low-carbon future. From onshore and offshore wind to battery energy storage systems (BESS), we're investing in the technologies and networks needed to achieve net zero.
We're looking for a Grid Engineer to join our growing team and support the development, delivery and operation of our renewable energy portfolio. Whether you're already working within grid engineering or looking to build on your experience in power systems, electricity networks or renewable energy, this is an opportunity to develop your expertise alongside experienced specialists working on industry-leading projects.
You'll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, supporting grid connections, power system studies, operational performance and future energy market opportunities across a diverse portfolio of renewable assets.
You will
- Support grid feasibility assessments and help develop connection strategies for onshore wind, offshore wind and BESS projects.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of grid connection applications, review connection offers and agreements, and support the coordination and interpretation of power system studies including load flow, short circuit, dynamic and EMT analysis.
- Work closely with Development, Engineering and Construction teams to define grid requirements, manage network interfaces, support outage planning, energisation, commissioning and project handover activities.
- Support operational assets through Grid Code compliance, performance monitoring, technical investigations, planned and unplanned outages, and engagement with System Operators and network companies.
- Build strong relationships with EirGrid, SONI, ESB Networks, NIE Networks, consultants and industry stakeholders while helping identify opportunities arising from system services, grid technologies, network reform and evolving electricity markets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Awareness of Grid Codes, connection agreements, technical standards, project assurance processes, constraints, curtailment, system services or market reform initiatives, alongside experience reviewing power system studies and assessing network impacts.
