Job Title: Grinding Operator
We're looking for experienced and motivated Grinding Operators to join our Production team at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Middlesbrough. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you'll play a key role in the manufacture of large-scale offshore wind monopiles, carrying out grinding, deburring and finishing activities while ensuring safety, quality and productivity standards are consistently achieved.

Shift Pattern
- Week 1 Days: Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 4:00pm and Friday, 7:00am to 1:00pm
- Week 2 Nights: Monday to Thursday, 8:30pm to 7:00am
Pay
- £17.61 per hour
- 30% Shift Allowance applicable on night shifts
This is a full-time permanent position, working 40 hours per week, with a competitive pension scheme and Medicash healthcare plan available.
The Role
As a Grinding Operator, you'll use a variety of manual and semi-mechanised grinding equipment to prepare, finish, deburr and polish large steel components used in monopile construction. You'll be responsible for ensuring workpieces meet design specifications and quality standards while supporting efficient production operations.
You'll work from technical drawings and specifications to produce high-quality finished components, undertake quality inspections and help maintain a safe and productive manufacturing environment. You'll also be expected to identify and report any quality, safety or production issues and contribute to continuous improvement activities across the facility.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual and semi-mechanised grinding equipment safely and effectively.
- Prepare and set up tools and equipment for grinding operations.
- Grind, deburr and polish steel components to meet engineering specifications.
- Use grinding equipment to prepare materials before welding and complete finishing activities after welding.
- Mount and dismount workpieces safely and efficiently.
- Carry out quality inspections using measuring equipment and visual inspection techniques.
- Report fabrication defects, quality concerns and equipment issues to supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic adjustments to grinding equipment and tools.
- Support production targets while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll have experience operating grinding equipment within a manufacturing, fabrication or heavy engineering environment. You'll be comfortable using both manual and powered tools, have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing high-quality work.

Essential Requirements
- Experience using manual and/or semi-mechanised grinding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical or mechanical drawings.
- Experience using measuring equipment for quality control inspections.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to identify defects and carry out minor repairs or adjustments where required.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience within heavy engineering, offshore wind, energy, shipbuilding or steel fabrication environments.
- Training in the safe use of hand tools and grinding equipment.
- Experience with large structural steel components.
- Knowledge of fabrication and welding preparation processes.
