Ground Investigation Consultant – Site Evaluation and Restoration

About the Role

As a Ground Investigation Consultant, you will be an integral part of our UK-wide Site Evaluation and Restoration team, supporting a broad range of ground investigation projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collecting, collating, and managing site and laboratory data
  • Undertaking site and task management activities
  • Preparing technical reports

Working within our Ground Investigation Contracting capabilities, you will support clients across sectors, particularly infrastructure projects such as rail, highways, waterways.

This role is ideal for an established Ground Investigation professional from either a consultancy or contractor background, with experience in:

  • Land contamination, geotechnical, and ground condition investigations
  • Career development within an award-winning geo-environmental consultancy team

Work includes exposure to land quality and engineering geology assessments, as well as collaboration on projects of regional, national, and global significance.

  • Potential locations: Warrington, Bristol, or Cardiff
  • Travel required: Regular on-site work across the North West

Role Accountabilities

  • Task & supply chain management, including procurement
  • On-site fieldwork (drilling supervision, ground investigation coordination)
  • Geo-environmental site reporting, including:
    • Soil and rock sample collection
    • British Standard compliance for sample logging
    • Laboratory scheduling and report integration
  • Health & Safety (H&S) duties, ensuring full compliance
  • Collaborative project delivery, liaising with multidisciplinary teams
  • Client engagement, maintaining communication with Project Managers and stakeholders
  • Report production: Draft Factual Ground Investigation Reports and technical documentation in line with Arcadis standards and relevant legislation

Qualifications & Experience

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc degree (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Science, or a related Earth Science discipline
  • Field and supervisory experience (drilling contractors, on-site management)
  • Minimum 12 months' experience in geo-environmental projects (geotechnical/ contaminated land investigations)
  • Stronghold on hazards, risk management, and H&S in controlled environments
  • Proven report-writing skills, including Factual Ground Investigation Reports completion
  • Active pursuit of professional membership/chartership (e.g., ICE, CIRIA, DSEAR)
