The Ground Operations function operates as a multi-disciplinary team of experts driving performance, efficiency and innovation across all aspects of Ground Operations.

The Ground Operations Duty Manager

The Ground Operations Duty Manager will be integral in the delivery of the TUI operation during their shift. They will seek to mitigate and minimise disruption to our customers and crew by proactively managing our operation and third party suppliers ensuring razor sharp focus on the TUI product across the airport environment. Our duty management team will lead our station co-ordinator teams and resource to ensure operational excellence is delivered. The Duty Manager will be pivotal in opening up communication channels between TUI operations and the local station as well as providing direct oversight of our handling partners.

In this role, you will be based onsite at Birmingham Airport and will report to the Airport Operations Base Manager. Applications close 1 September 2026.

About the Job

  • Be responsible for the operational delivery of all aspects of the TUI operation on site both front and back of house in accordance with agreed KPIs and SLAs
  • Provide operational management support for the TUI operation at our key base/s including management of any self handling products
  • Be the most senior person for TUI Airways on airport and provide representation as required
  • Initiate, co-ordinate and deliver operational oversight and recovery strategies in times of disruption
  • Manage and co-ordinate a team of Station Operations Coordinators (SOCs) on shift to provide online support for the TUI operation
  • Manage a team of SOCs from a people, performance and development perspective
  • Be the main conduit and coordinator of information to/from the station to the TUI Airways Operations Control Centre (TOCC)
  • Manage ground handlers and service partners in the live operation if required
  • Provide operational oversight and support in our contracted suppliers operations control centres to ensure high performance, effective planning and command & control activities
  • Manage operational mitigation measures locally to stabilise the TUI operation
  • Build effective and productive relationships with supplier and third party duty management teams to leverage benefit and value for the TUI operation
  • Provide support to other airports and areas of the operation as required
  • Responsible for deploying and delivering products, efficiencies and initiates as requested by the Base Management team
  • Co-ordinate and provide effective shift reporting and identify and communicate any operational efficiency or improvement areas
  • Initiate and manage the first level TUI Emergency Response and crisis plan
  • Responsible for the consistent and on time delivery of all aspects of the TUI operation whilst on shift, including communication with all parties involved with the aim of ensuring the departure time of the aircraft
  • Coordination, support and monitoring of the Self-Handling activities for TUI flights (where applicable)
  • Representing TUI at the airport during your shift
  • Oversight of communication between operating crew and ground handlers, ensuring correct loading and fuelling and maintaining safety and security standards
  • Operating various airline and computer systems
  • Reporting problems to all departments involved

About You

  • Significant experience in an operational airport, airline or ground handling environment
  • Proven experience in leading, motivating and managing teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Evidence you are able to think operationally on the job and implement recovery plans
  • Ability to co-ordinate a multi supplier and agency approach
  • Proven prioritisation ability and evidence of working in a fast paced high pressure environment
  • A logical thinker with the ability to generate ideas and alternatives and have confidence and to follow through
  • An excellent communicator and easily able to articulate complex ideas and instructions
  • Ability to illustrate that you are putting the customer at the forefront when developing plans and initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communicating skills and the ability to build strong local relationships whilst upholding our TUI Values
  • An influencer who can develop a strong network of contacts throughout the operation who is able to get stakeholders to champion TUI
  • This role requires strong business English (written & spoken)
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain the required airport passes and permits
  • Current possession of an airside pass, driving permit or airbridge permit would be advantageous
  • Flexibility: These roles will be deployed and based in our operation and as such they will be based around a 24h flexible shift pattern. The roles could also involve short term deployment to other TUI stations to provide operational support during disruption and/or crisis
