3 Months Contract with a Local Authority
Umbrella - £30.70 per hour
Job Purpose
As a Ground Worker, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of street furniture and public realm infrastructure across Southwark. This includes highways, parks, housing estates, open spaces, bollards, lamp columns, posts, and other public assets.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Install, maintain, and repair non-illuminated street furniture.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance works.
- Excavate and install lamp columns, posts, bollards, and feeder pillars.
- Undertake repairs to public realm infrastructure.
- Operate plant, tools, machinery, and equipment safely.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Identify and organise materials and equipment required for works.
- Maintain stock levels and manage tools and materials.
- Use handheld and vehicle-based technology to record works completed.
- Carry out site inspections and make safe any public safety hazards.
- Record asset information and update management systems.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and risk assessments.
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE.
- Respond to emergency callouts and public realm defects where required.
- Liaise with members of the public, contractors, and council teams.
- Work across highways, parks, estates, and open spaces.

Essential Experience Required
- Previous Groundworker experience.
- Experience installing and repairing street furniture.
- Experience with excavation and reinstatement works.
- Experience working on highways, public realm, landscaping, parks, or construction projects.
- Experience using power tools, plant, and construction equipment.
- Experience reading drawings and specifications.
- Experience working to Health & Safety standards.
- Experience undertaking reactive and planned maintenance works.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.

Essential Qualifications Required
- Relevant Groundworks, Construction, Highways, Civil Engineering, or Maintenance experience.
- CSCS Card desirable.
- Full UK Driving Licence desirable.
- Right to Work in the UK.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 36 hours per week.
- Location: Copeland Road Depot, London, SE15 3SN.
- Site-based role across Southwark.
- Contract Length: 3 months.
- Supplier Submission Deadline: 9th October 2026.
- We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
