2 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To maintain school grounds, playing fields, landscaped areas, and external facilities to a high standard, ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The postholder will operate grounds maintenance equipment, undertake routine horticultural tasks, and drive vehicles as required to support service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out grounds maintenance activities including grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, and weed control.
  • Maintain sports fields, playgrounds, and landscaped areas to agreed standards.
  • Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Drive Council or company vehicles to transport staff, equipment, and materials between sites.
  • Undertake routine inspections of equipment and report defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance activities, including leaf clearance and planting programmes.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and security of work areas, storage facilities, and vehicles.
  • Respond to service requests and support schools with grounds-related issues.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and grade.

Requirements

Qualifications & Licences

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Relevant grounds maintenance, horticulture, or landscaping qualification (desirable).

Experience

  • Experience of grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticultural work.
  • Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • Experience driving work vehicles and transporting equipment.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques and safe working practices.
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements relating to grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Additional Information

  • Location: New Balderton Newark NG24 3AL
  • Hours per Week: 45 hours
  • Pay: Bi-weekly
