About The Role
We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor on a permanent basis to join our Onward Environmental team. This role is based in Manchester and the purpose of role is to supervise the provision in-house services in the delivery of a high class grounds maintenance service providing an excellent customer service, responding effectively to customer enquiries while on site and through all other means, taking remedial action where necessary to ensure quality standards are met.
A full UK driving license is required for this role.
Job Responsibilities
Line Management
- Manage grounds maintenance teams to complete works to agreed schedules and specifications on estates and schemes.
- Provide operational cover as and when required, performing the duties of a grounds maintenance operative. Manage of pest control and hazardous substances and waste management.
- Performance management of in-house teams and contractors through safety audits and quality checks.

Resources
- Manage internal resources effectively and efficiently to deliver agreed performance targets and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Undertake the management and allocation of resources including plant, equipment, vehicles and materials.
- Delivering basic training and Tool Box Talks as required.
Health and Safety
- Ensure safe methods of work are adopted and all colleagues are suitable qualified and trained to deliver the work required. Ensuring records are available for monitoring compliance.
- Assist with the review and creation of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
Partnership Working
- Identify, build and develop internal and external partnerships to ensure that EST objectives are met.
- Deliver excellent customer service by listening to customers and responding to enquiries.
Reporting
- Prepare reports, minutes and other written communication as required.
- Investigate and report on health and safety incidents and customer complaints.
- Estimate costs and service charges for Environmental services and prepare work instructions for teams.
Customer Service
- Attend resident, partner meetings within and outside regular hours including evenings and weekends.
Essential:
Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of best practice in environmental services including Grounds Maintenance and Cleaning.
- A working knowledge of Horticulture.
- Track record of working under pressure, meeting deadlines and hitting KPI’s in a customer facing role.
- Experience of thriving in a team context, maintaining excellent relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues and external organisations.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities.
- Professional and flexible approach.
- IT Skills - Microsoft office.

Desirable:
- Knowledge of contract management.
- Experience of supervising an operational grounds maintenance and cleaning team.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant Lantra competencies in Horticultural machinery and equipment.
Desirable:
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent qualification / experience.
- PA1, PA6.
- Relevant qualification at Level 3 or above in Horticulture/Environmental Management.
