South East London and Bromley
At Southern Housing, our estates and green spaces reflect the services we provide and the communities we support. We're looking for a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to help keep our neighbourhoods safe, attractive, and well maintained across South East London and Bromley.
You'll lead and support grounds maintenance teams, monitor quality standards, and ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You'll also carry out estate inspections, oversee contractors, and identify opportunities to improve our outdoor spaces, supporting our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity.
This is a hands-on role that combines practical grounds maintenance with team leadership. If you're passionate about delivering great service, maintaining high standards, and making a visible difference to residents' daily lives, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll need
- Experience of working in a Ground Maintenance environment, with a strong understanding of health and safety practices, including conducting risk assessments, adhering to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, managing lone working situations, and prioritising the safety of the team.
- Proven experience of practical grounds maintenance tasks.
- A proactive mindset and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve operational challenges or issues that may arise within the Estate Services team.
- An understanding of value for money and service charges, recognising the importance of optimising resources and delivering cost-effective services. This includes identifying opportunities for efficiencies.
- The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with residents, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a customer-centric approach. This includes effectively addressing resident inquiries, concerns, and complaints, and working collaboratively to ensure their needs are met.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to effectively liaise with team members, residents, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Attention to detail to conduct thorough estate inspections and report on necessary repairs, compliance, or tenancy matters.
- You must hold a full UK driving licence with no more than six points and with no serious motoring offences in the last 10 years (i.e., CD, DD, DG, DR, IN, MR, TT). You must also have a minimum of two years driving experience. We will undertake driving licence checks on the successful candidate as part of our standard pre-employment checks process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
