Grounds Maintenance Team Leader
Lancing
£29,362 - £30,908 per year
40 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you will lead a team of Operatives in delivering high-quality grounds maintenance services across a range of sites in Sussex, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to an excellent standard.
As a Team Leader, you will play a key role in motivating staff, maintaining client satisfaction, and ensuring all work is completed in line with company standards and health and safety requirements.
Role Responsibilities
- Leading and supervising a grounds maintenance team on a daily basis
- Allocating work and monitoring performance to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Carrying out a variety of grounds maintenance duties including: grass cutting and lawn care, hedge trimming and pruning, weed control, planting and landscaping activities and leaf clearance along with seasonal maintenance
- Conducting site inspections and quality checks
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and procedures
- Carrying out basic maintenance checks on vehicles, machinery, and equipment
- Communicating effectively with clients, residents, and management teams
- Completing relevant paperwork, job records, and timesheets accurately
- Carrying out all hazardous tasks such as spraying, in accordance with supplier guidelines and in a safe manner, ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements

Skills and Experiences
- Literacy and numeracy equivalent to grade C GCSE English and Maths
- NVQ3 or equivalent in Horticulture or similar discipline
- Pesticide Application Certificate PA1 – PA6 (or equivalent)
- Some experience in supervising others
- Recent experience of undertaking a similar role
- Some practical experience of operating machinery
- Ability to use and update computerised systems (including PDA) for work scheduling
- This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
