Grounds Manager

Salary £55,572 – £59,971 (Grade J)

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Grounds Manager, to deliver a customer-focused grounds service within the Basingstoke and Dean Borough and Hart District.

You will be responsible for delivering an area-based grounds maintenance and street cleansing service, providing operational and technical expertise and managing a large team. This is an opportunity for you to help shape our service and develop new ways of working, creating places that improve residents' daily lives.

The council places great value on our frontline services and your role will be fundamental in ensuring we deliver a high-quality service to residents and visitors. The area has a wealth of parks and open spaces, beautiful villages and the North Wessex Downs National landscape, making it a great place to live and work.

You Will

  • Be self-motivated with a strong knowledge and understanding of managing a large team within an operational setting.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and place health and safety at the heart of your work.
  • Have an HND Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Have proven experience in leading, motivating and managing an operational team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build good relationships with members, residents, partners and others.
  • Be able to present issues clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Be self-reliant, well organised and meet deadlines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
