Department: Facilities and Estates Department - Pitch Grounds Team

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (including matchdays, evenings and weekends)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £32,000 per annum

Location: Bodymoor Heath Training Ground and Villa Park

The Department

Our award-winning Pitch Grounds Team at both Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath Training Ground are responsible for the care and maintenance of our playing and training pitches ensuring the best possible elite-level playing surfaces for our teams. We pride ourselves on innovation and sustainability and we have proudly achieved the prestigious Premier League Grounds Team of the Season more than once which is a testament to our exceptional standards and dedication.


The Role

We have some exciting opportunities for Grounds Persons to join our teams based at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground and Villa Park. These roles will play a vital role in keeping our day-to-day operations running smoothly, your responsibilities will include:

  • Grass cutting
  • Marking out
  • Re-seeding
  • Aerating
  • Fertilising
  • Verti-cutting

in line with the Club’s health and safety guidelines. You will also ensure that internal records are maintained and accurate and that all tools and equipment are maintained and stored safely and securely when not in use. You will also support the wider Estates team as and when required.

These will be varied, hands-on and active roles which will include working outside in changing and inclement weather conditions when required.

The Person

You will need to have an NVQ Diploma (Level 2) in Horticulture/Sports Turf or an equivalent qualification. If you have equivalent significant experience of working in a similar grounds role your application will also be considered.

You will need to be able to work as part of a dedicated, wider team but also independently when required. We are looking for someone who can use their own initiative to solve problems with the ability to remain calm under pressure and work to deadlines whilst maintaining excellent attention to detail.

Ideally you will have PA1 / PA2 and PA6A spray qualification and experience and have worked on professional football pitches previously.

You will need to be available to work flexibly as the Club requires this will include training sessions and matchday working in line with the team schedules, evenings and weekends. Ideally you will hold a UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle but you will definitely need the ability to travel between our Club Sites Bodymoor Heath Training Ground and Villa Park.
