About The Role Of Grounds Person
You will assist in the maintenance and presentation of the racecourse's all-weather racing surface and wider grounds throughout the year, maintaining the highest standards of presentation across external areas and supporting the successful operational delivery of race days and events. This is a varied and rewarding role within a busy racecourse environment. The successful candidate will be practical, motivated and reliable, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative and working independently when required.

Key responsibilities of a Grounds Person (please see JD for full list of responsibilities)
- Under the direction of the Clerk of the Course, assist with the planned maintenance and preparation of the all-weather racing surface and surrounding areas.
- Assist with the preparation, maintenance and reinstatement of the racing surface before, during and after racing, using tractors, machinery and specialist all-weather maintenance equipment as required (once training completed).
- Maintain lawns, gardens, landscaped areas and parade rings to a high standard, with particular attention to presentation on race days and during events.
- Maintain external areas across the racecourse, including car parks, access routes, tracks, tarmac areas and other hardstanding surfaces.
- Carry out routine maintenance and assist with the upkeep of grounds equipment, machinery, buildings and other estate facilities as required.
- Support the operational delivery of race days and events, including preparation of the grounds and facilities before, during and after events.
- Work in accordance with all relevant health and safety legislation, risk assessments, safe working practices and the Company's Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Be prepared to work flexible and unsociable hours as required by the racecourse operation, including evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays and race days.
The person we are looking for as a Grounds Person has…
- Excellent time management skills, communication skills and punctuality
- Works effectively under tight time constraints and within the demands of a busy racing calendar
- Enjoy outdoor working in all weather conditions
- Full clean driving licence
- Previous experience in grounds, maintenance or agriculture would be advantageous but not essential
