Job Title: Grounds Supervisor

Salary: £30,000 per annum
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 39 hours per week

Live-in accommodation or Relocation Support may be available for exceptional candidates. This role is based on-site at Langdale Hotel and Spa, Ambleside, LA22 9JD.

Role Summary

The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care, and presentation of outdoor grounds and landscaped areas. This role supervises a team of grounds staff, ensuring all grounds maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard. The supervisor coordinates daily operations, schedules tasks, maintains equipment, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of grounds maintenance staff.
  • Plan and schedule routine grounds maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, planting, fertilizing, irrigation, and pest control.
  • Ensure all outdoor areas such as lawns, gardens, pathways, sports fields, and parking areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate grounds team members, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Inspect grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs, hazards, or improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain and oversee the safe use, storage, and servicing of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • Monitor inventory levels of tools, fertilizers, and landscaping materials, and arrange procurement when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Assist in seasonal landscaping projects including planting, turf management, snow removal, and site preparation.
  • Prepare reports, work schedules, and maintenance records as required.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, equipment, and landscaping practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely.
  • Good organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices related to outdoor maintenance.
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Relevant certification in horticulture, landscaping, or grounds management (desirable).
