Groundworker / Multi-Skilled Worker

Location: Manchester and surrounding areas
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About J Mills Contractors

J Mills Contractors is a principal contractor working across the commercial, retail and leisure sectors. We carry out a wide range of groundworks, maintenance, refurbishment and construction projects for our clients.

We are looking for an experienced Groundworker / Multi-Skilled Worker to join our team. This is a hands-on role working across a variety of sites and projects, so we're looking for someone who is reliable, takes pride in their work and is happy to get involved in different types of work.

The Role

As a Groundworker / Multi-Skilled Worker, your work will include a variety of groundworks and general construction tasks, including:

  • Paving and block paving
  • Tarmac and patch repairs
  • Concrete works
  • Kerbing and edging
  • Excavation and ground preparation
  • Drainage and associated groundworks
  • Setting out work areas
  • Small repairs and maintenance works
  • Reinstatement works
  • Using hand tools and small plant
  • Working from drawings, instructions and site requirements
  • Keeping work areas clean, safe and tidy
  • Working alongside the wider site team to complete jobs to a high standard and within agreed timescales

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has solid experience as a Groundworker
  • Has experience carrying out a range of groundworks and general construction tasks
  • Can carry out paving, block paving, concreting and tarmac works
  • Is confident using hand tools and small plant
  • Has a good understanding of construction site health and safety
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Can follow instructions and complete work to a good standard
  • Takes pride in their work and has good attention to detail
  • Is reliable, punctual and has a good attitude
  • Is willing to turn their hand to different types of work when required
  • Has good communication skills
  • Holds a valid CSCS card
  • Holds a full UK driving licence

Desirable

The following would be an advantage:

  • Commercial or retail construction experience
  • Experience with drainage and excavation
  • Experience operating small plant
  • Additional construction qualifications
  • Experience carrying out general repairs and maintenance
