Our client, a PE backed utilities business is looking for a Group Assistant Accountant to join the finance team. The successful candidate will be supporting the preparation of month end accounts and be actively studying towards an accounting qualification. The role is based in Reading and offers hybrid working (3 days a week).
Description
The responsibilities of the Group Assistant Accountant include:
- Manage key financial and accounting processes to ensure they are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Oversee billing activities, ensuring invoices are raised accurately and on a timely basis.
- Manage the Accounts Receivable ledger, including monitoring outstanding balances and supporting effective debt recovery.
- Perform regular bank, credit card and expense account reconciliations.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring financial information is complete and accurate.
- Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
- Ensure intercompany accounting, invoicing and recharges are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
- Provide support to the Accounts Payable function and assist with the resolution of queries as required.
- Support the annual audit process, including providing information and responding to audit queries.
- Coordinate and complete relevant regulatory and statistical reporting requirements.
- Support the wider Finance team with ad-hoc activities, process improvements and projects.

Skills
The skills of the Group Assistant Accountant include:
- Actively studying towards an accounting qualification (ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
- Previous, relevant experience within a finance team and experience of finance systems.
- Highly numerate with a strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate reporting within tight timescales and challenging deadlines.
- Energised, confident, resilient, and self-aware.
- Pro-active, visible, and passionate about completing tasks to the highest standard.
