Group Assistant Accountant
Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties are partnering with an established and growing manufacturing business to recruit a Group Assistant Accountant to join its Group Finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified finance professional looking to develop their career within a multi-entity business, gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting activities and Group financial reporting.
Reporting to the Group Head of Financial Reporting, you will play an important role in supporting the month-end reporting process, maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring robust reconciliations across multiple Group entities. Working as part of a centralised Group Finance function, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical accounting knowledge, develop your experience and take on increasing responsibility within a growing business.
The Role
Month-End & Management Accounts
- Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Support the month-end close process and ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
- Assist with the preparation of management account schedules.
- Investigate accounting queries and discrepancies.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
- Ensure reconciliations are accurate, supported, and completed within agreed deadlines.

Cashbook & Cash Reporting
- Maintain accurate bank postings and cashbook records.
- Assist with daily cash reporting and cash monitoring.
- Support the maintenance of the Group cash-flow model.
- Investigate and resolve bank and cashbook discrepancies.
Group Accounting & Intercompany
- Support intercompany reconciliations across multiple Group entities.
- Identify and investigate intercompany differences.
- Provide supporting information for Group reporting and consolidation.
- Work flexibly across different entities, ledgers, and finance processes.
Audit & Process Improvement
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external audit.
- Respond to routine audit queries.
- Maintain accurate financial records and audit trails.
- Support improvements and standardisation of finance processes.
- Assist with improvements to processes within NetSuite and other finance systems.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- AAT qualification (essential).
- A sound understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
- Experience preparing and posting journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Good balance sheet reconciliation experience.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Good Excel skills and confidence using finance systems.
- The ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- A proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop professionally.

It would also be advantageous if you have:
- Experience within a Group Finance or multi-entity environment.
- Exposure to management accounts and month-end reporting.
- Experience with intercompany reconciliations.
- Cashbook or cash reporting experience.
- Working knowledge of NetSuite.
- Studying towards CIMA or ACCA.
- Experience within manufacturing or another growing, acquisitive business.
