The Role
The Group Capital Manager supports the development and delivery of the Group’s capital, balance sheet, and strategic objectives. Working across capital management, balance sheet management, liquidity, and strategic projects, the role helps identify opportunities, creatively design solutions, and coordinate actions that improve capital efficiency, financial resilience, and shareholder value.
Operating at the intersection of Finance, Treasury, Risk, Actuarial, Investments, and business leadership teams, the role requires an individual who can navigate organizational complexity, build alignment across stakeholders, and translate strategy into practical delivery. The role provides broad exposure to business priorities, transactions, and management actions, with opportunities to shape decision-making and contribute to the delivery of long-term strategic outcomes across the business.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Problem Solving and Solution Design
- Identify, assess, and help solve complex capital, balance sheet, and financial management challenges facing the business.
- Creatively design commercially pragmatic solutions that balance capital, liquidity, earnings, risk, regulatory, and stakeholder considerations.
- Develop and evaluate strategic options, management actions, transactions, and business initiatives, drawing together perspectives from across the organization.
- Translate complex analytical issues into clear choices, recommendations, and practical delivery plans for senior decision-makers.
Capital, Balance Sheet, and Financial Management
- Support monitoring and analysis of Group and legal entity capital, liquidity, earnings, distributable reserves, and balance sheet performance.
- Provide forward-looking insight into key drivers, opportunities, constraints, and emerging risks affecting financial resilience and strategic flexibility.
- Support capital planning, forecasting, stress testing, and scenario analysis, including the identification and assessment of potential management actions.
- Assess the impact of investment strategy, asset allocation, hedging, collateral, and capital actions on solvency, liquidity, earnings, and shareholder value.
Strategic Projects and Business Initiatives
- Provide analytical, strategic, and delivery support for transactions, reinsurance, business growth opportunities, capital optimization, and other material initiatives.
- Assess capital, liquidity, solvency, earnings, investment, policyholder, and stakeholder implications of proposed actions or project options.
- Help shape project direction by developing options, testing assumptions, and identifying solutions that support broader business strategy.
- Coordinate inputs, actions, and governance across functions to support timely and effective implementation.

Governance and Senior Stakeholder Support
- Prepare high-quality analysis, papers, and presentations for senior management, Executive Committees, and Boards.
- Support engagement with regulators, rating agencies, investors, and other key stakeholders where capital or balance sheet analysis is required.
- Ensure recommendations, decisions, and actions are supported by appropriate governance, documentation, controls, and audit trails.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of robust capital and balance sheet management frameworks, policies, reporting, and management information.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Experience within life insurance, asset management, banking, consulting, or another regulated financial services environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the creativity to develop new approaches and practical solutions to complex challenges.
- Ability to think strategically while maintaining a strong focus on execution and delivery.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills across multiple functions and levels of seniority.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and organizational complexity, build alignment, and progress activity across organizational boundaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to senior and non-technical audiences.
- Good understanding of capital management, liquidity, balance sheet management, financial risk, or related financial disciplines.
- Sound judgment, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Solvency UK, capital planning, stress testing, liquidity management, investment strategy, reinsurance, transactions, or balance sheet optimization.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working on complex financial, strategic, regulatory, or business initiatives where cross-functional coordination and stakeholder engagement were critical to success.
- Demonstrated ability to develop solutions, influence decision-making, and support implementation of strategic outcomes.
- Experience preparing analysis, recommendations, and materials for senior management, governance forums, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong track record of delivering high-quality work and managing multiple priorities in a complex organizational environment.
