Group Commercial Director

A respected market leader within the Commercial Interiors sector, who have experienced rapid growth over the last 10 years, are looking to strengthen their team with the key recruitment of Group Commercial Director.

About the Role

The Group Commercial Director is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and Operating Board, responsible for developing and delivering the Group's commercial strategy to achieve sustainable growth, profitability, and market leadership.

The role provides strategic leadership across sales, key account management, marketing, business development, and customer engagement, ensuring all commercial activities align with the Group's long-term objectives.

Working closely with the CEO, Chairman, and Board, the Commercial Director will identify growth opportunities, strengthen customer relationships, develop high-performing teams, and drive a culture of commercial excellence across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Leadership & Governance

  • Act as a key member of the Operating Board, contributing to overall business strategy and decision-making.
  • Provide commercial insight and market intelligence to support Board decisions.
  • Present commercial performance, forecasts, and strategic opportunities to the Board.
  • Support the Group's acquisition and integration strategy where appropriate.
  • Ensure commercial activities comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

Commercial Strategy

  • Develop and implement the company's commercial strategy.
  • Identify new market opportunities across all product ranges across all of the Group's operating sectors.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
  • Develop and implement a five-year commercial growth strategy.
  • Drive diversification into new sectors, markets, and territories.
  • Develop strategic plans to increase market share, customer value, and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve commercial processes, systems, and efficiency.
  • Lead pricing strategy to maximize profitability while maintaining competitiveness.

Sales Leadership

  • Deliver annual sales revenue and margin targets.
  • Manage and develop a national sales team.
  • Establish sales KPIs and performance measures.
  • Drive growth through specification sales, contractor partnerships, and distributor networks.
  • Create and implement a high-performance sales culture.
  • Develop succession plans for key commercial roles.
  • Lead talent development and capability building across the commercial function.
  • Support major account acquisition and retention.
  • Ensure each commercial team member delivers profitable growth.

Key Skills/Experience Required

  • 10+ years' senior commercial leadership experience within the Floorcoverings sector or a related Commercial Interiors sector.
  • Board or Executive Leadership Team experience.
  • Experience within specification-led sales environments.
  • Demonstrable record of scaling revenue and profitability.
  • Proven experience leading multi-channel sales organizations.
  • Strong strategic planning and execution capabilities.
  • Experience managing significant commercial budgets and full P&L responsibility.
  • Experience leading organizational change and business transformation.
