Group Compliance Manager

Location: Swindon Support Centre (hybrid working with 3 days per week in the office)
Package: Competitive salary + cash/car allowance + private medical

About the Role

As a Group Compliance Manager, you will be reporting into the Head of External Reporting. You will take ownership of the Group’s corporate tax compliance and reporting, including tax computations, provisions, disclosures, budgeting, and VAT returns. Working closely with Finance, external auditors, and HMRC, you will ensure timely and accurate tax reporting while also supporting insurance, contract, and wider compliance activities across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsibility for the completion of all Group corporate tax computations (1 large “retail trading” computation and a number of small company and branch computations including Jersey, Isle of Man, and Guernsey)
  • Preparation of the half year and full year tax disclosures, working closely with the Finance team in the preparation of the tax numbers and preparation of periodic tax journals
  • Responsibility for tax provisioning in the statutory accounts and annual budgeting across taxes
  • Liaising directly with the external auditors to ensure the timely completion of the tax provisioning process
  • The timely completion of quarterly VAT returns for the group
  • Work with insurance companies and store staff and manage the various insurance claims and relevant compliance
  • Managing the contract database and ensure compliance within the business
  • Liaising directly with HMRC to resolve any queries arising regarding direct and indirect taxes within the Group (including Customs Duty enquiries)

Experience required for this role will include:

  • Strong corporate tax experience, ideally within a group environment, with experience across tax computations, provisions, reporting, and budgeting
  • Good knowledge of UK direct and indirect taxes, including VAT and Customs Duty, with experience liaising with HMRC and external auditors
  • Strong financial, analytical, and Excel skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across Finance and the wider business
  • Relevant accounting or tax qualification (ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent) desirable
