About Equals
Equals is the next-generation global money movement platform built for exceptional businesses operating across borders. We bring international payments, embedded finance, and more together into a single connection that simplifies operations and strengthens financial control. With deep expertise and integrated infrastructure, Equals turns financial complexity into reliable solutions.
With our headquarters in London and teams around the UK and Europe, you will join a very close-knit, talented and supportive team from various backgrounds who believe that bringing different perspectives together helps us understand our customers' needs. United, by one thing, making money management straightforward and cost-effective for our customers.
About the role
Equals Money is a fast-growing, regulated payments business on a mission to make money movement simple. As Group Corporate Finance Director you lead financial planning, analysis and insight for the group — management accounts insight, Board and shareholder reporting, bank packs, budgeting, forecasting, rolling outturn, five-year business plan modelling, data integrity and business partnering — and lead Finance Projects, including M&A and debt financing support and continuous improvement of finance processes.
Above all, you keep the group Deal Ready — three years of history and five years of forecast (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow), fully integrated and reconciled to the management accounts and the Alakazam Group's statutory accounts, available on demand rather than assembled in a rush.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a senior leadership role for a qualified accountant equally credible in a Board meeting, a lender meeting and a diligence data room.
Responsibilities
-
Always Deal Ready Keep the Alakazam Group Deal Ready at all times — three years back and five years forward, P&L, balance sheet and cashflow, integrated and reconciled to the management and statutory accounts — with an ever-ready, print-ready data room, so readiness is business as usual rather than a scramble with the Head of Management Accounting and Head of Financial Reporting.
-
One Integrated Model Own the five-year business plan modelling and run one single, fully integrated group model — P&L, balance sheet and cashflow, with double-entry integrity — used for the budget, reforecast, long-range plan, lender reporting and every transaction, with scenarios and stress tests run off it at group and regulated entity level so regulatory capital and distributable reserves are visible in the plan.
-
Planning, Forecasting and Reporting Lead the group budgeting and forecasting cycles and rolling financial outturn, and own the preparation and delivery of Board packs and Executive/management accounts insight — clear commentary on performance, trends and variances that supports decision-making. Work with the Head of Management Accounting to load the budget and forecast into the ledger. Deliver insight, not commentary — every pack should say what changed, why, what it means and what to do about it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

-
Data, KPIs and Insight Partner with the Data team so no financial figure is published until Finance has approved and reconciled it to the ledger, and own the group's KPI framework and definitions — one agreed number per measure, aligned to what the Board, shareholders and lenders track. Deliver financial insight through drill-down dashboards so Executives, Board members and cost centre owners can self-serve to the underlying detail, working with Data and Engineering on the model behind it.
-
Capital Raising, M&A and Value Creation Provide financial analysis and due diligence support for M&A from screening through integration, support debt raising and refinancing (lender packs, relationship management), and model target businesses and the combined group on acquisition — synergies, integration costs, funding structure and regulatory implications. Build the business case for every material investment to a consistent NPV, IRR, payback and breakeven standard, tracking benefits realised, and quantify how Finance creates shareholder value — cost of capital, working capital released, regulatory efficiency and margin impact.
-
The External Story Own the preparation and delivery of bank packs and shareholder insight, and own debt covenant compliance forecasting — testing headroom on forecast and actuals and flagging pressure over 12 months out with mitigations available. Tell one consistent financial story to every external audience — shareholders, banks, insurers, regulators, auditors — at group and regulated entity level, providing the evidence behind going concern, viability and impairment with the Head of Financial Reporting.
-
Finance Projects and Change Lead finance transformation and continuous improvement across systems, process and operating model, owning the change portfolio via the Head of Finance Projects and sequencing it around the close, audit and regulatory calendar. Hold every project to a business case and a post-implementation review of benefits delivered, and sponsor automation and agentic AI across Finance while keeping human review and ownership firmly in place.
-
Business Partnering and Team Leadership Act as a finance business partner across the group, driving revenue growth and margin improvement, and get Finance into the conversation before a decision is taken. Lead, develop and hold accountable the Head of FP&A and Head of Finance Projects and their teams, and act as a visible senior leader across the whole Finance function.

Your Profile
Skills & Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or equivalent, with significant post-qualification experience in FP&A or corporate finance and a proven record delivering Board packs, bank packs and shareholder reporting.
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, rolling outturn and long-range modelling, with advanced Excel and integrated three-statement/scenario modelling skills.
- Experience leading finance projects (M&A, debt financing, process improvement) and presenting compelling financial insight to Boards, shareholders and debt providers.
- Experience in a private equity-backed or listed environment, ensuring data integrity across reporting systems, and implementing Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
- Experience defining a group KPI framework, strong business partnering skills, and experience preparing a business for diligence, including leading senior finance managers.
- Experience in payments, e-money or financial services is highly desirable, with familiarity with FCA compliance; prior investment banking, corporate finance advisory or Big Four transaction experience is an advantage.
Attitude & Behaviours
- Deal-ready by instinct and numerate and sceptical — you interrogate your own model as hard as you would someone else's.
- Insight, not commentary — you tell people what the numbers mean, and are credible under scrutiny in front of the Board, a lending bank or a diligence team.
- Commercially engaged and a developer of people — you understand the business, get into the conversation before the decision is made, and build capability beneath you.
Diversity & inclusion
