Group Development Chef - England & Wales | Home-Based with UK Travel
£40,000 + Car Allowance
Great ideas in food become valuable when chefs have the confidence and skills to bring them to life. As a Group Development Chef at Care Concern Group, you will help make that happen across our care homes.
This is an opportunity to develop recipes, strengthen our menus and work alongside kitchen teams to improve the food residents enjoy every day. You will see your ideas reach beyond one kitchen, while staying close to the people preparing and eating the food.
Reporting to our Head of Hospitality and working closely with our Executive Chef, you will help develop and deliver our culinary offer, combining creativity with practical support for colleagues across the business.
Contract
- £40,000 per annum & Car Allowance
- 40 hours per week
- Home-based with UK travel
- Company pension scheme
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Mobile phone and laptop
- Opportunity to work across a growing national care portfolio
The Role
You will formulate and test new recipes, explore products and help develop menus that balance flavour, presentation and nutrition. Resident feedback and tasting will help you understand what works and refine ideas before they are introduced more widely.
Working with the Executive Chef and Operational Area Chefs, you will help turn menu plans into confident delivery in our homes. You will explain the thinking behind new dishes, demonstrate techniques and support teams as they introduce recipes and menu cycles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Developing colleagues will be a central part of your work. You will support recruitment, training and mentoring across assigned homes, helping chefs build their skills and take pride in the quality they produce.
You will also help homes manage food budgets and spending, reduce waste and maintain food safety standards. Through support audits and follow-up work, you will identify where kitchens need help and work with colleagues to make practical improvements.
Throughout, you will keep residents’ needs in view, including nutrition, cultural preferences and medical diets. The aim is food that feels personal and enjoyable, delivered safely and consistently.
The role involves significant travel across the UK. You will work independently across different homes, building relationships with teams and adapting your support to the needs of each kitchen.
About You
We are looking for a skilled chef who enjoys sharing knowledge and helping other people succeed. You will bring fresh ideas, understand the realities of a busy kitchen and have the confidence to turn a recommendation into a practical improvement.
You will bring:
- A proven track record in care home catering, including quality food production, nutrition, and cultural and medical diets.
- Experience developing menus in a quality-driven, diverse commercial environment.
- Strong coaching, training and mentoring skills, with the ability to motivate and influence colleagues.
- Good organisation, IT skills and confidence with budgets and food costs.
- A Level 3 S/NVQ, Diploma or equivalent in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership, Professional Cookery or Senior Production Chef.
- Level 4 Food Hygiene, or willingness to work towards it.
- A full driving licence and willingness to undertake significant UK travel.
- A Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management and a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent qualifications, would be advantageous.
