Reputation isn't built on easy days. It's built on the challenging ones.
At Pennon Group, we provide essential water and wastewater services to millions of customers.
The work we do matters. It affects communities, the environment, public health, regulators, investors, government and customers every single day.
Which means people rightly care about what we do. They scrutinise our decisions. They challenge our performance. They expect transparency, accountability and action.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage a press office. This is a role for someone who wants to shape reputation at the heart of a major listed company operating in one of the UK's most highly scrutinised sectors.
The challenge
You'll lead Pennon's external communications strategy across the Group and play a key role in protecting and strengthening our reputation.
You'll advise the CEO, Executive Team and Board on some of the most complex and high-profile issues facing the business.
Some days you'll be building proactive campaigns that showcase investment, environmental improvements, innovation and community impact. Other days you'll be responding to major incidents, regulatory scrutiny, political interest or intense media attention.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
