Overview
Our client is a rapidly growing Private Equity-backed building services and maintenance group operating across the UK. The business delivers maintenance, retrofit and property services to public sector and regulated clients through a portfolio of regional operating businesses.
Having achieved significant growth through a combination of organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, the group is entering its next phase of scale. This newly created Group Finance Director role has been established to strengthen the finance function, enhance governance and reporting, and support a business with ambitious growth objectives.
Role Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Group Finance Director will take ownership of the day-to-day finance leadership agenda across a complex multi-entity group. The role will focus on financial reporting, consolidation, controls, governance, audit management, tax oversight and finance integration activity.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to a technically strong finance executive who can operate effectively within a fast-paced, acquisitive environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in building a scalable finance function capable of supporting significant future growth and will act as a trusted deputy to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead group month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and consistency across the business.
- Own multi-entity group consolidation and maintain compliance with accounting standards and group policies.
- Produce high-quality board and management reporting, providing clear insight into performance, risks and opportunities.
- Review and strengthen financial governance, processes and internal control frameworks across the group.
- Lead the external audit process and manage auditor relationships to deliver timely statutory reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of statutory accounts across group entities.
- Drive finance integration activities relating to acquisitions, including acquisition accounting and incorporation into group reporting structures.
- Establish consistent finance processes, controls and reporting standards across acquired businesses.
- Partner with the CFO on finance aspects of M&A activity and post-acquisition integration.
- Oversee group tax compliance and coordinate external advisers across corporate tax, VAT, CIS and related matters.
- Lead cash flow forecasting, cash management and working capital improvement initiatives.
- Support lender relationships, covenant reporting and broader treasury requirements.
- Develop, mentor and grow the group finance team, including regional finance leaders.
- Build strong relationships with operational and regional leadership teams across the UK.
- Enhance finance systems, reporting capability and use of ERP platforms to support continued scale and efficiency.
- Support the continued development of FP&A capability and wider finance business partnering.

To Be Suitable
- ACA, CA or equivalent professionally qualified accountant.
- Background within audit followed by progression into industry finance leadership roles.
- Experience as a Group Financial Controller, Director of Group Finance, Group Finance Director or equivalent senior leadership position.
- Proven track record within a complex multi-entity business with revenues typically exceeding £500m.
- Strong technical accounting, consolidation and financial reporting expertise.
- Extensive experience managing large external audit and statutory reporting processes.
- Working knowledge of corporate tax compliance, VAT and CIS requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior finance teams across multiple locations.
- Strong cash flow management and working capital optimisation experience.
- Experience supporting growth, transformation or acquisition-driven businesses.
- Track record of improving finance controls, systems, governance and reporting structures.
- Experience within construction, property services, infrastructure, facilities management or related sectors would be advantageous.
- Previous exposure to Private Equity-backed businesses is beneficial but not essential.
