Group Finance Director
Dartmouth Partners have exclusively partnered with a private-equity backed financial services business for a Group Finance Director, directly reporting to the Group CFO and joining the regulated boards. The complex, FCA-regulated business operates at significant scale and is looking to appoint a Group Finance Director to run the finance function, acting as a true number two and key contact for investors and exit readiness. This is a critical leadership role within a business undergoing substantial growth, transformation, M&A, remediation, and operational strengthening.
The Group Finance Director is responsible for financial stewardship, control, governance, liquidity, working capital and finance operations across the Group, leading the Reporting, Treasury & Tax team and the Revenue Operations team.
This role requires an individual with exceptional resilience, technical depth, and the ability to lead through complexity and change. Likely at Group Financial Controller or Director level equivalent already with significant PQ and step-up into something broader.
Regulated/Financial Services or Professional Services background is highly advantageous, (likely Insurance, Wealth, Consulting or Fund/Investment Services) and experience operating in the upper middle-market, generally between £100 million to £1 billion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
