Mondrian Alpha are working with a leading privately owned commodity trading group to hire a senior finance professional into a broad role spanning finance, treasury and commercial operations. The group trades more than one billion litres of fuel annually, generating approximately US$700–900 million in turnover, with operations across Southern Africa and the UK and established relationships with major counterparties.
This is a succession hire, replacing a senior executive retiring after 20 years with the business. There will be a handover period, allowing the successful candidate to develop a detailed understanding of the group’s trading entities, financial arrangements and commercial relationships before taking ownership of a wider remit.

Key Responsibilities:
- Strengthening accounting, financial reporting and controls across the group.
- Managing cash flow, liquidity, treasury, working capital and banking relationships.
- Consolidating financial and operational information to provide the CEO, senior management and Africa-based CFO with clear visibility over performance and trading exposures.
- Establishing clearer separation between the operating businesses and the owners’ wider family office and private investment interests.
Role Requirements:
- Working closely with senior leadership to manage major trading counterparty relationships.
- Supporting local finance and operating teams across Africa.
- Liaising with customers, suppliers, banks and professional advisers across multiple jurisdictions.
- Comfortable moving between detailed accounting work, commercial problem-solving and senior stakeholder management.

Candidate Profile:
- ACA/CIMA qualified.
- Strong accounting and financial control experience.
- Fluency in Hindi/Gujarati is essential.
- Experience in commodities, fuel, energy is highly advantageous.
