Group Accountant | 12-Month FTC with Permanent Potential | c.£70,000 + Benefits | Hybrid – London / UK-wide
I'm working with a fast-growing, PE-backed group that needs an experienced Group Accountant to join its central finance team for the next 12 months. The group is buying businesses and bringing them together at pace. You'd step into a senior role with real influence while the current post-holder moves onto a major systems project.
The Opportunity
The group is a UK multi-site business with revenue of over £200m, built largely through acquisitions. Many of the businesses it has bought still run with their own local finance teams, systems, and ways of working. Group finance is now bringing them together under common controls, policies, and reporting. Anyone who likes building structure where it doesn't yet exist will find plenty of scope here.
You'll report to the Group Financial Controller. You'll own the group reporting cycle and act as the technical go-to person across the business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Running the monthly group consolidation, including intercompany and cash flow, and producing the group reporting pack
- Reviewing management accounts and balance sheets across the group, and challenging treatments where needed
- Leading the year-end group audit and managing the relationship with the external auditors
- Reviewing the statutory accounts and tax computations (preparation is largely outsourced)
- Advising on technical accounting, including acquisition accounting, leases, and new transactions, often through written position papers
- Helping integrate newly bought businesses, including completion accounts, a standard chart of accounts, and group policies
- Helping with tax compliance, banking, and cash forecasting
- Working closely with the Head of FP&A
- Managing and developing one accountant

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
