Group Financial Accountant
London/Cambridge, UK · Automated electronics manufacturing · Financial accounting & reporting · Technology-led scale-up
The company
We're partnering with a fast-growing, profitable electronics manufacturing business that builds the boards behind robotics, autonomous systems and other advanced technology products. They were founded by engineers frustrated by a simple gap: software teams iterate in minutes, while hardware teams still wait weeks to get a new design built. Their answer is a factory-scale robotic assembly platform that redesigns the production process itself, rather than just digitising how you order from it.
They've recently raised $28M to expand manufacturing capacity in the US and Europe, with operations in Massachusetts and a growing presence in Cambridge.
The opportunity
Finance has deliberately stayed lean here, and it's now time to build. The team is a Finance Director and a Management Accountant, both experienced qualified accountants. This role adds dedicated financial accounting and technical reporting capability, with ownership of the books, the audit and the technical questions that come with a growing international group.
The group runs its UK and US intercompany model in NetSuite. Much of the day-to-day UK finance activity is outsourced, while the internal team owns the larger US operation, group reporting and consolidation. You'd be the main point of contact for the outsourced firm, reviewing their work and holding it to the standard the group needs, while also working across the US side.
AI and automation are already deployed across the business, including in finance. That raises the bar for technical accountants: the company needs someone who understands the numbers well enough to judge whether automated output is right, and who can use technology to improve how finance works without weakening control.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you'll work on
The precise balance will evolve with the candidate, but the remit is expected to include:
- Financial accounting and close: Own month-end, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations, with a clear understanding of how the accounts fit together.
- Audit and statutory reporting: Act as the first point of contact for the auditors, manage their requests and prepare supporting schedules under UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Technical accounting: Lead projects such as IFRS 15 revenue recognition, the capitalisation policy and the treatment of intercompany transactions as the business and its commercial models develop.
- Group reporting: Support reporting across the UK and US entities, including intercompany reconciliations, and contribute to group consolidation in NetSuite where experience allows.
- Outsourced provider management: Manage the relationship with the UK outsourced accounting firm, reviewing their output and holding it to the standard the group needs.
- NetSuite and finance systems: Work directly in NetSuite and across the different systems and platforms that feed into it. Understand how data moves through the business rather than treating the accounting system in isolation.
- AI and automation: Review and take ownership of automated and AI-generated finance output, making sure it is accurate and properly controlled, and help identify where further automation makes sense.

Who this suits
A qualified or near-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical foundations. The specific qualification matters less than acumen, drive and personal qualities. You may have trained in practice, at a Big 4 or top 20 firm, and be looking for your first move into an operating business Or you may already be in industry, qualified or close to qualifying
The strongest signals are
- Solid knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS.
- A clear understanding of how a set of accounts is put together.
- Experience working in NetSuite.
- The ability to work autonomously to deadlines.
- Real comfort with technology and AI.
- Practical curiosity when something doesn't reconcile.
You don't need an electronics background, but an interest in how real products are built will make the environment far more compelling.
Why it's a good move
You'd join a profitable, fast-scaling robotics and manufacturing business at a pivotal stage, in a role with real technical ownership. The breadth is rare this early in an industry career: revenue recognition, capitalisation, intercompany, audit and reporting across a UK and US group, working closely with experienced qualified accountants.
The first objective is to be a safe pair of hands on the close and the audit. From there, the scope grows with the finance function and with what you contribute to it.
