Group Financial Control Manager – Hybrid, Hook, RG27 9UY
Full Time, Permanent
Band 2 / £80,000 - £90,000 (dependent on experience)
Here at Serco, we're looking for an experienced Group Financial Control Manager to help shape and strengthen our financial control environment across a complex, international organisation. Working closely with the Group Financial Controller, you'll play a pivotal role in creating a simple, effective and well-coordinated financial control framework that provides confidence to senior leadership, the Audit Committee and the Board.
This is a highly visible role for someone who thrives on bringing clarity to complexity. You'll create a single, trusted view of financial control risk across the Group, combining insights from audit, assurance, compliance and operational activity to drive better decision making, stronger accountability and continuous improvement.
We're looking for someone who can challenge constructively, influence without authority, and drive meaningful change across a matrix organisation. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in financial controls, internal audit, assurance or risk, gained within a large and complex corporate environment.
While a professional accounting qualification is valued, the key differentiator for this role will be demonstrable experience in financial controls, audit, assurance and governance within a complex organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the ongoing development and enhancement of Serco's Group financial control governance framework.
- Coordinate Group-wide compliance and control activities, ensuring consistent and high-quality outputs across divisions and functions.
- Bring together audit findings, control testing outcomes, compliance reporting and operational indicators to create a single view of financial control effectiveness and risk.
- Identify emerging risks, systemic control weaknesses and areas of inconsistent execution, ensuring issues are escalated and addressed appropriately.
- Translate governance processes and technical control information into clear actions, ownership and accountability.
- Support senior leaders, the Audit Committee and Board with clear, insight-led reporting on financial control performance and risk.
- Partner with assurance providers to prioritise assurance activity based on risk and materiality.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that simplify processes, strengthen governance and improve control effectiveness.
- Chair or support governance forums and risk and compliance meetings across the Group.
- Act as a trusted subject matter expert, supporting Finance teams across the business on financial controls, governance and assurance matters.

Requirements:
- Significant experience within Financial Controls, Internal Audit, Assurance, Risk or Governance roles in a large, complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of financial control frameworks, governance structures and regulatory environments.
- Experience gained within a Big 4 firm and/or a sizeable corporate environment, with the credibility to influence at senior levels.
- Proven ability to lead change, improve frameworks and drive action across a matrix organisation.
- Experience interpreting multiple sources of information and translating them into meaningful business insight and risk assessment.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the confidence and gravitas to challenge senior leaders constructively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, from control operators and operational finance teams through to executive leadership and Audit Committee members.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to see the bigger picture while maintaining a focus on detail and control effectiveness.
- Experience of finance transformation, controls improvement or governance enhancement programmes would be highly advantageous.
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is desirable and additional Internal Audit, Risk Management or Controls qualifications would be advantageous.
- The ability to achieve SC clearance is required for this role.
