Axel Monroe are exclusively partnering with an established UK Listed organisation in their search for a Group Financial Controller. With revenues in the hundreds of millions, our client is a multi-site distribution group operating across various retail channels.

The Business has continued to expand its presence through acquisitions, new site openings and an investment in its digital capabilities. As the group develops, it is focused on strengthening its financial infrastructure, operational efficiency and building scalable processes.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will oversee the financial operations of the PLC at group level. This position will take responsibility for group consolidation and IFRS reporting, financial controls, governance, external audit and tax, regulatory compliance, budgeting and forecasting.

This position requires someone who can navigate a multi-site group while combining a strong technical accounting expertise with a commercial judgement. The successful candidate will also play an important role in improving reporting processes, delivering cost and developing a high performing group finance function.

The role will be based in London, with four days a week spent in the office. It will be best suited for an individual in a Financial Reporting or Group Reporting Role who is looking to make their move into a Group FC position.

Responsibilities:

  • Taking ownership of monthly, quarterly and annual group reporting, including the consolidation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Ensuring the Group maintains robust financial controls, risk-management processes and corporate-governance frameworks.
  • Managing the external audit and tax-compliance processes, acting as the principal point of contact for auditors and professional advisers.
  • Ensuring compliance with UK corporate-governance requirements, listing rules and relevant financial regulations.
  • Supporting the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning and commercial decision-making.
  • Providing clear financial analysis and insight to support senior leadership and improve business performance.
  • Acting as a key financial contact for investors, regulators, financial institutions and other external stakeholders.
  • Leading and developing the finance team while promoting a high-performance and collaborative culture.

Requirements:

  • ACA qualified preferred, although strong ACCA- or CIMA-qualified candidates will also be considered.
  • Relevant financial reporting experience, including experience within a corporate or listed-company environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS reporting and group consolidation.
  • Demonstrable experience overseeing financial controls, statutory reporting and external audit processes.
  • Proven experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to translate financial information into practical recommendations.
  • The confidence and credibility to work closely with senior leadership, the Board and external stakeholders.
  • Experience within distribution, manufacturing or a similar multi-site industrial environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience operating across different cultures, jurisdictions or time zones would also be beneficial.
