WRS is looking for an experienced Group Financial Controller to join our Head Office in Altrincham and play a key role within our global Finance function.
Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this is a senior and broad-ranging position with responsibility across our international Group. You’ll lead an established Finance team and take ownership of the day-to-day financial control, reporting and performance of the function, while also helping us continue to improve how Finance supports a growing global business.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on with the numbers but equally comfortable looking at the bigger picture – improving processes, developing people, strengthening controls and working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
The role
As Group Financial Controller, you will:
- Take ownership of the preparation of timely and accurate monthly consolidated management accounts and reporting
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, providing clear and meaningful financial information to Directors
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Group's accounting records and financial systems
- Oversee financial reporting across our international subsidiaries and support Group consolidation
- Manage the statutory accounts and year-end audit process, working closely with external auditors
- Take an active role in cash flow and working capital management, including debtors, invoicing and funding requirements
- Strengthen financial controls and ensure appropriate processes are embedded across our overseas entities
- Oversee relevant tax compliance across the Group, including Corporation Tax, VAT and other international requirements
- Manage, motivate and develop the Finance team, creating a high-performing and commercially focused function
- Work closely with departments across WRS to ensure Finance effectively supports operational and commercial decision-making
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve systems and drive efficiencies across the Finance function
- Lead the development of our Finance automation and AI strategy, exploring how technology can improve efficiency, strengthen controls and enhance the quality of financial reporting

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
