Group Financial Controller

We are looking for a Group Financial Controller to lead the financial control environment across Bettys & Taylors Group.

This is a broad and influential leadership position with responsibility for the Group’s accounting, tax, treasury and transactional finance teams. You will be the guardian of our financial integrity and liquidity, ensuring that we have accurate financial information, robust governance and the financial capability needed to support our day-to-day operations and long-term growth plans.

As a member of the Group Finance Leadership Team, you will help shape the future direction of finance across the Group. You will combine technical excellence with commercial awareness, strong leadership and an outward-looking perspective to ensure that our financial control environment continues to evolve alongside the business’ needs and requirements.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, you will lead the Group’s accounting, tax and treasury, and transactional finance teams.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing the accounting, tax, treasury and transactional finance teams, creating a culture of accountability, curiosity and continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Group’s financial and management accounting, including its monthly results and annual statutory accounts.
  • Ensuring compliance with UK GAAP and all relevant accounting standards.
  • Continuously improving an effective financial control and governance framework, supported by appropriate policies, controls and monitoring processes.
  • Leading the Group’s tax compliance, including Corporation Tax, VAT, Duty and other statutory obligations.
  • Working with the Group Finance Director to ensure that all Senior Accounting Officer requirements are met and that systems and controls comply with HMRC expectations.
  • Leading the statutory audit process and building a strong, effective relationship with the Group’s external auditors.
  • Overseeing the preparation of statutory accounts and other external financial reporting requirements.
  • Managing the Group’s bank accounts, treasury requirements and payment processes.
  • Optimising the Group’s liquidity through effective cash-flow management, working capital performance and banking relationships.
  • Leading the Group’s foreign-exchange hedging strategy for its significant US dollar exposure, ensuring that currency risk is managed effectively and in line with treasury policy.
  • Advising the Group Finance Director and senior leadership on financial risks and opportunities associated with the Group’s strategies, business plans and key decisions.
  • Monitoring emerging financial legislation, regulation and market developments, and translating these into practical actions for the Group.
  • Defining clear measures of success for the financial control environment and using performance insight to track progress and course-correct when required.
  • Contributing collectively to the Group Finance Leadership Team, helping to lead and embed Group-wide finance strategy, change initiatives and effective ways of working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
